A blessing in disguise for coach Damon Graulus
Damon Graulus takes care of the talents of F4E Racing KTM as a coach and supervisor. In addition, the Dutch and Belgian ex-MX2 champion also wants to show something himself. Today, however, Damon had to go under the knife to repair a foot injury. Fortunately, the operation went well.
During the F4E RacingKTM internship in Spain, Graulus had broken the 5th metatarsal bone in two places. As a result, he will have to refrain from participating in the Enduropale in Le Touquet. The training camp with his pupils Mario Lucas, Eddie Jay Wade and Guillem Farres went perfectly. Today Graulus was successfully operated on by a foot specialist in Herentals.
“My foot is the only problem at the moment,” Damon laughs. “It is still painful at the moment, but I hope that I will soon be mobile thanks to the walking cast.” Out of necessity, active cross-country racing for the Flemish Brabander will be scaled back by a few weeks. However, the work with his men continues as usual.
“During the internship in December it was the first time that all three drivers worked together on the track at the same time. Honestly, all three of them made a good impression! Eddie returns after a serious injury. But where he stands so early in terms of physical and driving technique leaves the best to be hoped. We knew that Mario would perform even better on the quarter liter due to his stature. That turns out to be true, but he will of course have to compete against strong competition in the EMX250. I knew the least about Guillem. But he has a very great, flowing style. Very different from Wade, but they are worth each other in terms of speed and that certainly helps to make each other better.” Both Eddie Jay Wade and Guillem Farres will compete in the EMX125.
However, Graulus also follows up the F4E Racing KTM support riders. “Everyone has different goals, but it is also motivating for myself as a coach to see that the boys are making progress. Youth rider Baudoin Detout has worked hard in recent months and is now reaping the benefits. I am really enjoying this new position. I didn't know what to expect beforehand, but so far everything has been going smoothly!”
