Colt Nichols takes his first Supercross victory
The first match of the season naturally creates extra tension and this year there was also quite a bit of rain! Colt Nichols took his first Supercross victory at Anaheim's Angel Stadium. The Yamaha rider was followed by teammate Dylan Ferrnandis! Third place went to Shane Mcelrath who won the first match of the season in 2017 and 2018. Last year Shane Mcelrath managed to triumph, this year the KTM rider did so again. Fourth place went to RJ Hampshire followed by Adam Cianciarulo.
In the final Cianciarulo seems to take the lead but he goes out of bounds and has to work his way back to the front. McElrath wins the Holeshot Award but the KTM rider is quickly passed by Nichols who then does not relinquish the lead. Ferrandis follows third, but he sees Hampshire pass on the first lap. However, the Frenchman comes back and he comes second ahead of Mcelrath and Hampshire. Cianciarulo comes back very strong and manages to cross the finish line in fifth place.
