Take 5: Lynn and Cas Valk
Lynn and Cas Valk have been a well-known presence on circuits throughout Europe for many years. The brother and sister both have a bright future ahead of them. The duo from Nijverdal impresses on and off the cross track. Always friendly and well behaved, time for a chat with these Yamaha-supported motocross riders!
MXMag: 2018 was a special season for both of you. Lynn made her debut in the Women's World Championship and Cas switched to the 85cc Big Wheels. How did your 'first season' go?
CV: “My season went great, I finished fifth at the Dutch Masters of Motocross and fourth in the ONK, I am very satisfied with that. As we got further into the season the riding got better and my starts also got better. The EMX85 was completely new to me and I rode two super races there that I am very proud of.”
MF: “My season went very well and even exceeded expectations! My objective was to get a few points to be in the top ten for the second year. I already managed to reach the top ten this year! I was new to these classes and didn't really know what to expect, among the 250F bikes I rode with my 125cc and I was the fastest in all WMX competitions.”
MXMag: In addition to the World Championships, Lynn also rode the European Championships for women, where you became the best 2-stroke rider. Too bad that the final for the home audience in Markelo was canceled due to the drought!”
LV: “It was a shame that Markelo was cancelled, I was really looking forward to riding in front of the home crowd. The rest of all the European Championships went great, I became champion in the 125cc Girls class and a total of fourth place in the Women.”
MXMag: Despite missing a match, Cas managed to qualify for the EMX85 final in Loket. You scored three points, a disappointment?
CV: “In fact, I missed two games, this was a conscious choice before the season. this is due to Lynn's WMX calendar. Still, I was allowed to participate in the finals in Loket and we went there to learn a lot. My starts there were very bad and it was not easy to get to the front. I am not satisfied but hope for a second chance in 2019!”
MXMag: What does your 2019 schedule look like?
CV: “I am going to ride the complete KNMV ONK, the Dutch Masters of Motocross 85cc. We have also registered for all EMX85 North-West preliminaries, all on the new 2019 Yamaha YZ85. I'm already excited."
MF: “I will ride all WMX & EMX competitions on the Yamaha 250F. In the Netherlands I will do my best on the Yamaha 125cc at the ONK and the Dutch Masters of Motocross.”
MXMag: What is your goal for 2019, when will this season be a success?
CV: “I am trying to get a top three place for the ONK, the Dutch Masters of Motocross and the EMX85 preliminary rounds. I hope that I can also ride the final in Loket again, and hopefully I will now go there with a different feeling so that I can also put in a good race there. My season will be extra successful if I can end it without injuries.”
MF: “My goal is to ride in the top ten again with the WMX and to finish the EMX races as well as possible. I will do my best for that and hope for an injury-free year.”
MXMag: Thank you for your cooperation!
MF: “Thank you for your attention and interest.”
