Stefan Everts is in an artificial coma due to malaria
Sporza published this morning the report that Stefan Everts (46) is in an artificial coma. This is the result of an infection with malaria. Other sources have also confirmed Everts' illness.
Stefan is said to have contracted malaria* during or after the 4 Hours of Lubumbashi in Congo last month. At the beginning of this week, the ten-time world champion was urgently admitted to hospital in Hasselt. He was then transferred to intensive care at the hospital in Leuven. According to Sporza The doctors at the University Hospital in Leuven will not be able to get the disease under control for the time being, so Stefan is currently being kept in an artificial coma.
De 4 hours from Lubumbashi in Congo there was a charity competition in which Stefan stole the show together with Thierry Klutz. To surround Stefan as best as possible, his family asks for the necessary rest. If there is more news, a press release will be issued about this. The MXMag editorial team wishes Stefan a speedy recovery and wishes his family a lot of strength in this difficult period.
Malaria explained*
Malaria is an infectious disease caused by a parasite. The disease is transmitted to humans by malaria mosquitoes. The consequences of malaria may initially resemble normal flu. The clinical picture is characterized, among other things, by attacks of fever, headache and muscle pain. A malaria attack can be fatal if the disease cannot be immediately combated with effective medicines.
