Soubeyras & Escoffier win French SX titles!
In the French town of Amneville - about a three and a half hour drive from Antwerp - the final round of the French Supercross Championship was held last Friday and Saturday. The SX Tour, as this championship is sometimes called, had three title candidates in the SX Open class and two in the SX2 class.
In the SX Open class, Valentin Teillet, Greg Aranda and the big favorite Cedric Soubeyras were still eligible for the title. These three fighters were only five points apart going into the last two days of competition. In the final on Friday, Cedric Soubeyras stepped forward and already had one hand on the title. The young man who is in his last weeks with the JPM Suzuki team managed to keep his direct competitors Greg Aranda and Valentin Teillet behind him in the final. Cedric Soubeyras suddenly gained a margin of about seven points over Greg Aranda in the championship and even ten points over Valentin Teillet. On Saturday, the Suzuki pilot only had to finish fourth to claim the title, but Soubeyras did better, finishing second behind Greg Aranda and ahead of Valentin Teillet and thus crowned the deserved SX Tour open champion.

In the SX2 class, the two who still had a chance of winning the title listened to the names; Thomas Do and Adrien Escoffier. The latter entered the last two competition days with a six-point lead over Thomas Do, with forty points still to be earned. In the words of “The Smartest Person” presenter Eric van Looy: “Everything was still possible”. However, on Friday, Adrien Escoffier already took a big option in a duel in which physical contact was not avoided, the Frenchman on the Pro Hexis SR Honda machine showed himself to be the strongest. With a tiny lead over Thomas Do and the very surprising performance of Pierre Lozzi, Adrien Escoffier not only won the final on Friday. He also increased his lead in the championship to nine points, which allowed him to start Saturday with a calmer attitude. With Thomas Do winning, Adrien Escoffier still only needed a fifth place to claim that important SX Tour SX2 class title. Victory in Saturday's final indeed went to Thomas Do, who outpaced the exceptionally well-performing Pierre Lozzi and Julien Roussaly, but Adrien Escoffier secured his title with a fourth place.
