Positive day for Yentel Martens in Hossegor
Due to an ankle injury he sustained last weekend, Yentel Martens was unsure about the course of the Ronde des Sables in Hossegor. Martens had to deal with a bad start, but afterwards came back strongly and eventually finished just off the podium in fourth.
At the end of the straight, “Y-Mart” was boxed in, so he only exited the first corner in the top 20. However, Martens quickly got into a tight rhythm and was able to climb the ranks. To protect his foot, Yentel was extra careful in busy traffic. Of the top riders, he was one of the first to come in for new glasses. Martens then put in a strong second half of the match.
The former Belgian MX2 champion overtook Jeffrey Dewulf on the tough track, but due to a crash he ultimately had to settle for fourth place.
Yentel Martens: “Today was a step in the right direction for me. After some bad luck last weekend I was a bit nervous about how things would go. Unfortunately my start was anything but perfect! Because I started outside the top 20, I had a lot of work ahead of me. But my speed was good and I could overtake freely. I approached Jeffrey Dewulf at the end of the race but I crashed. I couldn't make up for that lost time. Still, I'm happy with my progress. I know my speed is good and everyone is working hard to perform! “
