KNMV announces Papendal move
Papendal and the KNMV are increasingly mentioned in the same breath. In 2020, the KNMV will even move to a new building at Sports Center Papendal! The Royal Dutch Motorcyclists Association has been in the center of Arnhem since the 60s.
Last Saturday, the KNMV laid the symbolic foundation for this new project with the signing of an agreement between the KNMV and Papendal. Known worldwide as a top sports location, Papendal is also home to the KNMV motocross talents who follow a CTO program (Center for Top Sports and Education).
In addition to accommodation for training athletes, Papendal, an independent subsidiary of NOC*NSF, also offers accommodation for sports organizations. For example, the Dutch Cycling Association (KNWU), football club Vitesse Arnhem and the Dutch Triathlon Association preceded the KNMV. This model is also used in Denmark, for example, where the motorcycle association is housed in the headquarters of the Danish Olympic Committee in Brondby. It is not yet known what this building on Papendal will look like. The briefing for the architect states that it must be a sustainable and 'motor-proof' building.
KNMV director Patrice Assendelft: “Papendal is familiar territory to us. It breathes sport and fits nicely within all KNMV 2020 projects. So also for training courses and our touring clubs. We would like to thank the steering group, Brink Advisory Group and Papendal for this smooth process!”
KNMV chairman Jan Wilms: “The KNMV has been located in Arnhem Center since the 60s. A beautiful location, but we also look further and see that Papendal can offer us more in the future. It is in line with our policy on many points. We as a board are proud of this milestone and hope for more moments like this.”
The steering group will choose an architect for the project this year.
