Kevin Strijbos confirmed at JWR Yamaha Racing
JWR Yamaha Racing today announced the arrival of six-time GP winner Kevin Strijbos announced. The 33-year-old Belgian will compete for the Swedish 24MX team in the MXGP world championship. Plagued by injuries, Strijbos finished 14th in the final standings this year.
In any case, Strijbos and JWR Yamaha Racing will start in all European MXGP competitions. The intention is also to participate in both Chinese rounds, Shanghai and Hong Kong. In addition to support from Yamaha and 24MX, the team can also count on special GYTR parts.
JWR has chosen Yamaha Racing Belgium as its base for the team's new workshop. In addition to the World Championship, 'the Kid' will also compete in the Swedish MX1 championship. Click here for an interview, in which Strijbos talks about his new challenge.
Kevin Strijbos: “I am very happy with my agreement with JWR Yamaha Racing Team. It is a young dynamic team and I will try to help them as much as possible with my experience. I'm also looking forward to riding the Yamaha 450F. Especially because I've heard a lot of positive things about this bike. I can't wait to drive it! It seems that I am now coming full circle because in my first GP season, in 2001, I rode Yamaha in the 125cc. Of course I will do my best next year to achieve the best possible results.”
Johan Westermark (Team Manager): “It is a huge step forward for JWR Yamaha Racing to compete in 2019 rounds of the World Championship in 17. I couldn't ask for a better rider to take on this challenge. Although Kevin has struggled with injuries this season, it was clear that he still has the speed to compete at the front and fight for top-five places. We look forward to giving him the tools to make that possible.”
