Still an operation for unfortunate Sam van de Ven!
The Oirschotse Sam van de Ven, who had a hard fall in Geldermalsen, underwent a final and ultimate MRI scan in the hospital this morning. Because she was still in pain, it was clear that there was more going on. The result is less pleasant because it shows that the muscle that holds the shoulder in place has been torn. It also became clear why Sam found it so difficult and painful to lift her arm above her head. The muscle is located twice in the muscle socket, and that is detrimental to unhindered crossing. That is why Sam has to undergo necessary restorative shoulder surgery.
The recovery period after the operation will take at least six weeks. Despite the setback, Sam will continue to work on her fitness and hope that she can complete the winter well and be ready for a new season in early March 2019. In this way, Sam thanks the many people who have not forgotten her. She also thanks her parents and sponsors for their support during this period.
