Test the new generation of KTM 2019 SX models!
In May 2018 KTM presents the new line of KTM 2019 SX models. True to KTM's 'READY TO RACE' promise, these globally dominant ultra-lightweight machines have been radically refined to ensure KTM continues to set the benchmark in the off-road segment.
Bicycle part
For model year 2019, all motorcycles in the adult range received a revolutionary update, with KTM engineers focusing on further reducing weight, which is once again becoming the new standard in every class. In the heavier 450cc class, the KTM 450 SX-F is significantly lighter than its rivals. All SX models receive a redesigned frame with increased stiffness, improved agility and straight-line stability, a longer subframe, a revised recess for the rear axle and completely new sheet metal for improved ergonomics and greater freedom of movement. A totally new appearance with new graphics complements the newly shaped seat and new fuel tank. A new air filter box offers better protection of the air filter and better air flow for both the two- and four-strokes. This in turn ensures more efficient power delivery and better performance.
New radiators provide efficient cooling and are better positioned for mass centralization, while a stronger lithium ion battery for the electric starter combines with a revised wiring harness to create a compact electrical system. A modified triple clamp for improved handling is combined with new spring settings, while a newly developed, dual purpose plug-in mode is another new feature of the 2019 range. On all models you will still find impressive series components such as Brembo brakes, WP suspension, a NEKEN handlebar, Dunlop tires, plus a map selection button with integrated traction control, launch control and map selection on the four-stroke machines. This is not a model update with minor changes, it is a real evolution: approximately 60% of the parts of each engine are new.
Motor
Compared to the previous generation, all KTM SX range motorcycles have undergone significant engine changes. The KTM 250 SX-F and KTM 350 SX-F benefit from a newly developed DS clutch, while all four-strokes receive an optimized gearbox and a state-of-the-art Keihin engine management system with a reworked throttle body and improved electronics package. The KTM 125 SX, KTM 150 SX and KTM 250 SX all enjoy optimized carburetor settings, with a new gearbox and clutch for each, among other improvements. In addition to the engine improvements on all models, the flagship KTM 450 SX-F receives a newly developed SOHC cylinder head for reduced weight and improved mass centralization, a new camshaft with reduced valve overlap and improved surface area, complemented by a DLC-coated camshaft chain guide with low friction resistance.
Test drive
Curious about how the new engines drive? Then come to one of the 3 KTM Offroad Days 2018:
