Official: The age limit in the EMX250 is from 2019!
The news that hit like a bombshell earlier this week has now been officially confirmed by FIM Europe and Youthstream. The European Championship 250cc From 2019 onwards, it is only accessible to riders who are 1 years or younger on January 2019, 22! This means that drivers Simon Furlotti, Mel Pocock, riding a Marshal Weltin can tear up their first signed contract. According to the promoter, these 'older' riders take the places of young talent because this does not allow sufficient progression!
The EMX300 will disappear and become EMX2S European 2 Stroke Championship with engines up to 250cc. There is no age limit for this class, so riders who have no opportunity to progress to the World Championship from the EMX250 can still be active in this class during a GP weekend.
No word yet about raising the age limit in the FIM MX2 World Championship. There are rumors that this limit will be increased to 25 years, but that is not yet official. Hopefully this will be communicated sooner than this incident. It is of course crazy to think that this change will only be communicated in October!
