Belgium is doing a good job!
In the first round of the day, the pilots registered in the MXGP class and MX2 class were in action. The entire motocross world was eagerly awaiting the possible duel between Eli Tomac and Jeffrey Herlings. A duel that did not happen yet in this first heat.
It was Antonio Cairoli who managed to take the holeshot, but the experienced Sicilian hit a muddy patch on the outside of the corner and that caused him to crash just after exiting the first corner. He not only did this, he also took a well-started Clément Desalle into his problems and some other important pilots such as Ken Roczen.
Jeffrey Herlings was the biggest beneficiary of this fuss at the start. He was not struggling and was able to quickly take the lead in the match. Until halfway through the first lap he also made a small mistake on the treacherous course and briefly came into contact with the “Red Mud”. As a result, we saw the brand new MX2 World Champion, Prado Garcia, take the lead. The Spaniard managed to hold on to this lead for a long time and cleverly held off Frenchman Gautier Paulin on his 450cc machine. But once Jeffrey Herlings had managed to fight back from a spot outside the top five into the wake of Gautier Paulin and then beyond, it soon became clear that the young Spaniard's empire on his 200cc less powerful engine was also quickly extinguished. would be. With about half a race to go, the leader of the Dutch team passed Jorge Prado and one lap later Gautier Paulin finally managed to pass the Spaniard. Jorge Prado would eventually finish third behind these two 450cc toppers!
Behind these three it looked like Tommy Searle was going to finish fourth. The Brit got off to a good start and made short work of Dylan Ferrandis, Eli Tomac and Hunter Lawrence. But once again the Briton's Dixon Kawasaki started to smoke like an e-cigarette, and with two laps to go the Kawasaki gave up. This unfortunate incident was fortunate for Team America, which saw Eli Tomac move up to fourth place. In addition, it was also good news for Team Belgium, which saw Clément Desalle, who had returned from afar, finish his recovery in fifth place. After his crash at the start, Antonio Cairoli finished sixth ahead of Dylan Ferrandis and Hunter Lawrence. The top ten was completed by the Canadian Colton Facciotti and the Italian Michele Cervellin.
Jago Geerts finished in a strong thirteenth place for team Belgium, while Team Netherlands suffered its first setback of the day with the retirement of Calvin Vlaanderen. There was another setback for Team America, who only saw Aaron Plessinger cross the finish line in eighteenth. For the German team, this first round was immediately one to forget because with a 25th place from Ken Roczen and a “Did not Finish” from Henry Jacobi, the chances of a victory seemed to fly straight away.
After one round, France is currently in the lead with nine points. In second place we find Italy with 16 points and third is Belgium with 18 points. The Netherlands is currently in ninth place with 37 points. The towering favorite America is currently in fifth position with 22 points.
