Injury to Calvin Flanders keeps the Netherlands from winning!

After a long time, the Motocross of Nations landed on American soil again, which immediately meant that the Americans became the sole and towering favorites for this event! With statements from Aaron Plessinger such as: “I don't fear anyone from the European pilots except perhaps my teammate Dylan Ferrandis,” the American pilots and press immediately brought enough tension to the race.
But after three unpredictable heats, it is again France that comes out on top, and team America, like Belgium, does not even make it to the podium. In the third moto it was Alessandro Lupino who managed to take the holeshot. The Italian was immediately joined by the Dutchman Glenn Coldenhoff and also by Ken Roczen. Ken Roczen, who, like most other AMA pilots, was clearly not in the right rhythm after six weeks of no competition, quickly fell back in the results. While Glenn Coldenhoff managed to take the lead in the race and never relinquished it.
Behind Glenn Coldenhoff, it was his compatriot and teammate Jeffrey Herlings who managed to maneuver himself smoothly into second place, thus ensuring the Netherlands team of the third podium place after the bad luck with Calvin Vlaanderen. These two Dutchmen rode a long way from the fight for the overall victory, which took place behind their backs. This battle between Italy and France remained exciting until the final rounds. Antonio Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino took on Gautier Paulin. However, the Frenchman proved to be too strong for the nine-time world champion who unfortunately completed most of the race without glasses and for his Italian compatriot. With this third place of Gautier Paulin and the fifteenth place of Jordi Tixier, who started this third round, his second round, with a standard engine block after his racing block broke down in his first round. France managed to secure victory with only 2 points ahead of the Italian team. The question is what if Antonio Cairoli doesn't have to ride two-thirds of the race without glasses...
Or what if Calvin Vlaanderen didn't seriously injure his eyes?! Then Team Netherlands would have won with two fingers up their noses. The Dutch team that recorded three series victories, one second place and then the 36th place of the “DNF” of Calvin Vlaanderen arrived on the podium with these scores, with only 6 points more than France. In short, in this unimaginable and unpredictable motocross of Nations, a 29th place finish for Calvin Vlaanderen would have been enough for the Netherlands to defeat France and Italy. Unfortunately, Calvin Vlaanderen's bad luck keeps team Netherlands from victory. We wish Calvin a speedy recovery!
Neither the Americans nor the Belgians competed for victory individually or as a team for just one moment in this final round. It may sound like a cop-out, but the most prestigious motocross competition in which we would like to see all pilots appear in top form about 6 weeks after the last AMA National leg is ridiculous and downright ridiculous. In 7 days from now it will be lotto day for the AMA pilots. Justin Barcia, Aaron Plessinger and Eli Tomac can then earn $1 million in one evening at the Monster Cup. What would your priorities be during the preparation?
Unfortunately, this excuse does not apply to the Belgians. However, due to yesterday's poor qualifying, mediocre starters such as Clément Desalle and Jago Geerts had to start from thankless positions. Clément Desalle had a crash in his first moto and made a good recovery to fifth place, in his second moto he rode in the rear for an entire race. Jago Geerts is a spring chicken who just came to see and was immediately thrown to the lions in Red Bud. With his thirteenth place he had fulfilled his part of the deal, achieving one good result. One caveat is the different speeds at which he and his former rival Jorge Prado appear to be evolving. And Jeremy Van Horebeek finished sixth and eleventh in his races. A reasonably good and solid result, but after what we saw yesterday from 'The Jerre' this was somewhat disappointing.
