Yentel Martens takes victory in the first match for the French sand championship!
The pilots descended on Berck-Sur-Mer for the first round of the “Championnat de France des courses sur sable”. The French championship, which seems to gain in interest and importance year after year, could count on a live broadcast on L'Equipe 21. But also on the participation of many well-known names such as Steve Ramon, Jeffrey Dewulf, Adrien van Beveren, Maxime Desprey , Axel van de Sande, Petar Petrov, Nathan Watson and many more…
At the start of the match we saw none other than the old faithful Steve Ramon taking the lead in the match. The multiple world champion and now almost 40-year-old Steve Ramon put a lot of effort into it. With this he quickly put the opposition at a relatively small but nice disadvantage. However, a minor fall turned the man from Jabeek's race upside down. Ramon, now on Yamaha and in Moose clothing, fell between the doubled riders, causing him to lose the rhythm and the lead.
That leadership fell into the hands of Yentel Martens. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna pilot from the JM Racing stable clearly set the pace. At first, Nathan Watson seemed like he could pose a threat. However, this was not taken into account by the very tall man from Lommel who really fought a very strong race, threw himself at risk among the doubled and therefore managed to place his competitors at about fifteen seconds at the finish.
Nathan Watson managed to cross the finish line in second place, ahead of Milko Potisek. The top five was completed with two more Belgians, namely Jeffrey Dewulf who had done a lot of work after a poor start and Steve Ramon who, after his crash, managed to perfectly relaunch himself to a top position after a few laps.
The Belgian and reigning champion Axel van de Sande finished in eighth place in this first race of the championship. Former Le Touquet winner Daymond Martens finished fourteenth. The MCLB Inter pilot Mattis Meersschout finished 45th, just one lap behind Yentel Martens.
