VLM Broechem: Grobben tolerates no contradiction!
The Stroekckx friends received the VLM caravan in Broechem where the Newcomers Open B, Newcomers Open C, Masters, Juniors Open and sidecars competed for championship points. Cedric Grobben did the talking for the Inters half-litres. The SHR Motorsports/Bagger Paul rider won both heats.
Last week Cédric Grobben had a disappointing ADAC MX Masters weekend in Gaildorf. Today, however, Grobben put things in order in Broechem. The KTM rider convincingly won both series. While VLM champion Jens Van Meer would be the logical challenger, things didn't go well today. In the first moto Jens managed to recover well to third place after a bad start.
The BeTeMo leader also got off to a bad start in the restart. To make matters worse, Van Meer also crashed, meaning he had to settle for an atypical 12th place in the end. Surprisingly enough, Grobben's closest attacker was not a fellow 450'er - sorry half-liter - but 250 champion Jonathan Banken! Banks proved once again that he doesn't have to fear anyone with his quarter liter of Yam. Banks finished second each time. Kenny Janssens' fifth and third place were enough for second place in the final standings. His third place in the final kept Kevin Van Geldorp (4-4) from the second podium step. Kevin and Kenny once again proved that they are truly worth each other this season!
We will know how the battle for the vice-champion title will end on September 30 when the championship final at the Inters takes place in Reet. In any case, Van Geldorp starts the ultimate match with a buffer of eight points. The VLM-VMBB confrontation in Lummen is on the calendar next weekend.
