Five points separate Herlings from world title after MXGP of Turkey!
The Turkish Grand Prix was again a challenge for Jeffrey Herlings, the lowlander was too strong for the competition in both rounds. In the first heat the Dutchman took the holeshot and with that the story of the race was immediately written.
His first competitor for the title, Antonio Cairoli, had a slightly worse start in the first heat. As a result, the Sicilian first had to deal with Clément Desalle and Tim Gajser to come in second place. Once we arrived at this second spot, the bird Jeffrey Herlings had already started flying. Antonio Cairoli eventually finished second ahead of Tim Gajser and Clément Desalle. Our other lowlanders finished in fifth place with Jeremy Van Horebeek, in sixth place with Glenn Coldenhoff, in thirteenth place with Julien Lieber and in fifteenth place with Kevin Strijbos.
In the second moto it was Clément Desalle who managed to take the holeshot, but before the first passage to the finish it was Jeffrey “The Bullit” Herlings who had taken over the lead from the Walloon Kawasaki pilot. Tim Gajser also made quick work of Clément Desalle, so that Clément Desalle would eventually cross the finish line in third place. And what about Antonio Cairoli? The only man who can still threaten Jeffrey Herlings for the title fell to the ground in the first round and that jeopardized his entire match. Due to this fall, the Sicilian did not get further than fifteenth place! This means that Jeffrey Herlings only has to score five points this season to secure the world title. Something that will more than likely happen in his home Grand Prix at the TT Circuit of Assen!
The other lowlanders finished in sixth place in the second round with Jeremy Van Horebeek, seventh place with Glenn Coldenhoff, Kevin Strijbos in twelfth place and Julien Lieber who finished thirteenth. In the overall Grand Prix result, Jeffrey Herlings was of course on the highest podium with his two series victories, ahead of Tim Gajser and Clément Desalle. Antonio Cairoli finished eighth with only 28 points... Our lowlanders did more than decent with Jeremy Van Horebeek who finished fifth overall with 31 points, Glenn Coldenhoff finished two places lower in seventh with 29 points and Julien Lieber with 16 points and Kevin Strijbos with 15 points finished thirteenth and fourteenth.
