Preview Belgian Masters of MX Orp-le-Grand
This weekend, Belgian motocross is preparing for an absolute classic: the MX of Orp-le-Grand. In Orp, the great tenors - led by Glenn Coldenhoff and Kevin Stijbos - will compete against each other on Sunday in the final of the Belgian Masters! In addition, all BMB solo classes and vintage cars are on the program.
The combination of natural elements, the spectacular, technical section along the hillside and over the Kleine Gete combined with modern influences create Orp-le-Grand unique in the world. If you've never been there, this coming Sunday is highly recommended! In addition, the picturesque Walloon Brabant village will again welcome many big names.
Next to Glenn Coldenhoff, Kevin Strijbos, Shaun Simpson Petar Petrov, Harry Kullas and Jonathan Bengtson also make Steve Ramon Yentel Martens, Dietger Damiaens and Roy Sillien their appearance at the Inters 500. Kevin Strijbos, together with Simpson, the ideal challenger for Coldenhoff, who has never won in Orp. However, we are sure that the Standing Construct KTM rider would love to add his name to the list of achievements of this prestigious competition! Apart from the mutual battle, the quirky circuit of Orp always guarantees a spectacle... And during the first Belgian Masters we were also presented with a few surprises. So made it Yentel martens on the Keiheuvel the podium of the two Inters heats at the expense of top performers such as Strijbos and Petrov. I wonder if Martens will succeed now!
Ordered before Dietger Damiaens This weekend will probably be a tough test. The sympathetic Limburger tore his ankle ligaments during the time training in Balen. Also some interesting names in the quarter liter class, including: Thomas Covington Anthony Rodriguez, Micha-Boy De Waal, Oriol Casas, Mark Boot, Tim Louis and Rob Konings. In all likelihood, this will be the last match on Belgian soil for Covington! The winner of the Turkish GP will immediately return to the US after this World Championship season to prepare for his first SX season. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider can probably expect the strongest opposition Kemea Yamaha's super sub Anthony Rodriguez, even if late Micha-Boy De Waal saw great things last year in Orp where he won one round.
Just like on the Keiheuvel in Balen, Inters and Nationals 250 and 500 each ride two heats of 20 minutes + 1 lap that count for the Belgian Championship. The best riders 250 and 500 will advance to the final that counts for the title of Motocross Belgian Masters, where afterwards we will be able to honor Ken De Dycker's successor in Orp.
The training sessions start at 8 am, the first races at 10 am. On Saturday the FPCNA pilots will complete their rounds for the Walloon championship. Consult this post for all practical information related to Orp-le-Grand. Check here our photo gallery from last year.
