Motocross Misses: Ine Segers
Sometimes there comes a time when we just have to take the plunge and step out of our comfort zone. Last week was such a moment for Ine Segers, and for once she exchanged the cross course for the set of a photo shoot. Curious about the results of a day of shooting with Ine? Well you can find it all here on MXMag!
interview:
MXMag: Ine for the people who didn't know you yet, who is Ine Segers?
Contains: Well, I'm Ine. I am 19 years old and participate in motocross, where I am mainly active in the JMS and VLM federation.
MXMag: We just did a photo shoot together, what did you think?
Contains: It was a nice experience, and something different than usual. Of course you don't do something like that every day, so it was nice to experience this.
MXMag: It is indeed a bit different than how people usually see you, but are you actually someone who is normally concerned with her appearance?
Contains: Gho not special. Of course I like to go shopping sometimes, but then I usually just go for black pants or something like that. Really special things are not really for me. I also hardly ever use make-up, only on occasion a little mascara.
MXMag: How did you actually get into motocross?
Contains: Actually, I was kind of born on the cross. Long ago I used to ride a pit bike around my dad's and my brother's cross-country races. But as I got older I was quite fickle at certain times, and after a while I really had had enough with the cross. At one point I really hated it. At that time I was also a completely different Ine than the Ine that most people know now. I was more shy then, and not at all the person I am today. It wasn't until 2016 when my brother bought a new motorcycle that I was able to try a small part that ignited the spark again.
Another nice anecdote about this is that when I started competing myself, I was really crying in my helmet from the stress during my first competition. Looking back, I was glad that day had continued, and in itself it is still a funny story to look back on.
MXMag: If I'm not mistaken, you also did gymnastics for a while, so isn't it quite a switch to switch from gymnastics to motocross?
Contains: Yes indeed, I did gymnastics, acro, tumbling and the like from the age of six until I was fourteen. I even rode horses for a while. Those were perhaps more real girls' sports, while motocross is slightly harder, but I have always liked that. I was actually good at it, but to date I have never regretted that I finally took the step to motocross.
MXMag: When you finally took that step into motocross, were there certain people you looked up to and inspired you?
Contains: I've never really looked up to big names, because I prefer to just look at myself. Although I must honestly admit that my dad and my brother have always been an example to me. My dad in particular, who could ride a motorcycle really fast before his injury, is a great example to me. Without that injury I really think he could have become a very good cross rider.
MXMag: What would you actually like to achieve in your motocross career?
Contains: To start with, I would just like to be on the podium for once, but of course I have only been riding for two years and I don't want to rush anything. Although I secretly dream of becoming a women's champion one day and being able to ride in the top 10 among the boys. At the moment that is still a bit far from my bed, and I just want to take it step by step. But who knows... If I ever succeed in all this, I would be really very happy.
I would also like to thank all the teams that organize a cross every weekend. I would also like to thank the people from the rescue, photographers, my parents, the Dapa team and actually everyone for bringing the cross to life again week after week.
