Interview: 2B1 Motorsport from Assen.
A few months ago we saw a call from 2B1 Motorsport looking for drivers for 2019. A new team in the paddock always causes questions, so we went to Assen to take a look at 2B1 Motorsports and speak with John van Wijk!
– Where did you suddenly come from?
JvW: “My father-in-law has raced, my wife has raced, I have raced a little bit and now my son rides. That's how we started the sport and because everything was going well, I started 2B1 Motorsport in addition to my company. Initially for my son Wessel van Dijk who was asked by Kawasaki to ride a KX85 in 2019. We then decided to set up a team for the coming season.”
– You receive support from Kawasaki, why this brand?
JvW: “As mentioned, Kawasaki asked us to support Wessel and subsequently the plans became bigger and bigger. In addition to the KNMV ONK, we will ride the KNMV ONK 250cc and the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 250cc with two riders.”
– What is the team composition?
JvW: “We have someone who deals with the engines and we also employ two mechanics who keep the engines 'fresh' for the riders. Furthermore, I am busy with the management of the team and the matters surrounding it. I do this as much as possible next to work and in the evenings, but more and more time is also being spent on 2B1 Motorsport during the day.”
– Founded so recently and already here in Assen. How does that happen so quickly?
JvW: “To be honest, that wasn't our intention. We have been approached to help Ruben Fernandez-Garcia move forward together with Galvin, GJV Racing and Kawasaki for this race and in two weeks. Over the past two weeks, we have worked very hard to get everything on track for this fast Spaniard. It took a few hours of sleep, but we are now here at the TT Circuit.”
– What are the plans for the future?
JvW: “The most important things for us in the first year are the KNMV ONK Youth, KNMV ONK 250cc and the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 250cc. That is what we are focusing on and later we would like to grow to the EMX250 and who knows, one day the MX2 World Championship, but that is still a long way away at the moment.”
– Thank you for your cooperation and good luck.
JvW: “Thank you for your attention and interest in our team.”
