Vanluchene/Van den Bogaart take the GP victory and World title in Switzerland!
Marvin Vanluchene and Ben van den Bogaart have won their sixth Grand Prix sidecar cross of 2018. She took the day's victory through a third and a first place and also secured the 2018 Sidecar Cross World Title! The second scaffold in Roggenburg, Switzerland was occupied by the French Giraud/Badaire and the young Dutch/Belgian couple Veldman/Janssens scored their second GP podium of this season and finished third in the daily results of the Swiss GP in which a lot happened again. to talk about. However, the talk of the day was and remained the just won World title of the Belgian/Dutch duo Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart.
Heat 1
In the first heat, an armada of Belgians took the holeshot with Dierckens, Sanders and Vanluchene. Immediately behind this Giraud, Hermans, Janssens, Wilkinson and soon Bax/Stupelis followed. At the back of the field we saw a serious crash during the start of the Frenchman Thomas with his Dutch baking player Siebe van der Putten. This immediately meant the end of the match for this duo.
Vanluchene quickly got things in order at the front and was past Dierckens and Sanders after just two corners. Bax/Stupelis then dived onto the rear wheel of Sanders/Haller in the second lap. This was just too literal because when Bax/Stupelis attempted to overtake, the box hit Sanders' rear wheel and it came up, causing Bax/Stupelis to crash hard! Fortunately, they were able to bounce back, but they had to drop from around 20th position again.
Hermans/Musset also fell away from the leading group in the second lap due to problems with the dead man's switch. They were able to continue after a delay, but like Bax/Stupelis, they had to come from behind.
After about fifteen minutes of the race, Giraud had gotten rid of Dierckens and Sanders and closed the gap to Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart. The Frenchman then took the lead with a clever overtaking action inside. Veldman/Janssens had also squeezed past the Belgians Dierckens and Sanders at that moment and were also able to drive towards Vanluchene. They then took over the second position and the top three remained like that until the finish, with Giraud as the winner, Veldman in second and Vanluchene in third.
The British Wilkinson/Chamberlain crossed the finish line in fourth place after a tight and well-structured race.
Sanders and Dierckens then had a battle for fifth place for a long time until the unlucky devil visited the latter for the umpteenth time this season. Due to braking problems, Dierckens/Rostingt fell out of the top 10 in the final phase of the heat. Sanders/Haller finished fifth after they managed to keep the fast-rising Bax/Stupelis at bay in the last lap, resulting in Bax's overtaking race ending in sixth place. The Czech brothers Cermak, who also started in the top ten, managed to end a great race in seventh place. Willemsen/Bax had not come out of the melee well at the start and were only 27e on the road. More than thirty minutes and 19 sidecars later, the race ended nicely in eighth place. Heinzer/Betschart scored an impressive ninth place in front of their home crowd after having put up quite a battle with Van Werven/Van Gaalen in particular, who would finish eleventh. Hermans/Musset had positioned themselves between Van Werven and Heinzer in the final phase and 10 moree. Dierckens eventually managed 12e with his faulty brakes. The Belgians Boussy/Sabbe finished 23rde in and the Dutch Keuben/Rietman quickly left the race and recorded a DNF.
Heat 2
Because Vanluchene finished third in the first heat and closest World Cup competitor Hermans only tenth, Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart had the World Cup title up for grabs in the second slot. All they had to do was ensure that Hermans did not lose fifteen points.
Right from the start, Vanluchene wasted no time and was second ahead of Hermans, Giraud, Willemsen and Bax, with the fast starters Dierckens/Rostingt once again taking care of the holeshot. Vanluchene quickly took over the lead and then rode away from Dierckens, who in turn was forced into third place after a good ten minutes of racing by the advancing Bax/Stupelis. In second place they now had a considerable gap of almost ten seconds behind Vanluchene in first place and gave everything to close the gap. However, 'the man with the hammer' now came to visit again. The baking bracket of the sidecar came loose and fell off the machine! As if having to cut with a Swiss army knife with a broken blade, Stupelis tried to force himself into all kinds of positions to clamp down. This garnered a lot of respect from the spectators, but the disappointed Bax/Stupelis would have preferred to gain this respect through a podium place. Especially on the fast parts, the competition overtook them and at the finish there was no more than a dismal 22nd place.
Everything went smoothly at the front for Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart and they were very emotional and eventually crossed the finish line first. Not only did they win the Grand Prix, but they also secured the World Title, making Vanluchene the youngest sidecar cross World Champion ever!
Hermans/Musset eventually managed to finish second, with Giraud in third place and Willemsen/Bax finishing fourth. Dierckens was not unlucky for once and was able to capitalize on his holeshot with a nice fifth place. Behind this we saw Wilkinson and Veldman in the sixth and seventh spots. Both combinations had missed the start and entered the top ten from almost the back. Because Veldman had finished second in the first heat and was now seventh, they collected just enough points to finish third in the daily total. Gert van Werven and Kenny van Gaalen finished eighth, followed by Sanders/Haller at nine and the top ten was closed by the sympathetic Austrians Weiss/Schneider.
After his crash in the first heat, Siebe van der Putten was now able to finish with rider Thomas and finished fourteenth. Boussy/Sabbe unfortunately dropped out and Keuben/Rietman didn't have their weekend either. They finished 23rd behind Bax's defective machinee.
On the podium we saw the new World Champions Marvin Vanluchene and Ben van den Boogaart as the day's victor in Roggenburg, with Giraud/Badaire on the second podium and the cheerful Veldman/Janssens in third place.
Already next weekend the last Grand Prix Sidecar Cross will take place in Vesoul, France.
The World Champion is known and Hermans/Musset are firmly in second place with a lead of 45 points over Bax/Stupelis in third place. Willemsen/Bax are then fourth, but Giraud is only fifteen points behind and behind them the sidecars of Varik, Veldman and Wilkinson are ready to collect as many World Championship points as possible in the last Grand Prix of 2018.
