Sven Van Der Mierden has to miss Lommel
Sven van der Mierden (Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing) would normally ride MXGP in Lommel this weekend. However, due to a hand injury sustained during training, the Valkenswaard cross rider has to remain sidelined.
Last Wednesday, van der Mierden completed a final training session at the Berghem circuit when things suddenly went wrong. He fell and injured his hand. Further examination in the hospital revealed that there were two fractures in his hand, which forced him to withdraw from Lommel.
"We immediately started the treatment and within 24 hours there was an improvement. Unfortunately the hand is too swollen and hurts too much to start this weekend. In the MXGP class you have to be 110 percent fit to participate and unfortunately I am not at the moment. So far I have had a good season and I would have liked to compete for points in Lommel, but an injury is an injury and you can't do anything about it." says a disappointed Sven.
In the coming period, Sven's hand will be treated carefully. He hopes to be there again on August 15 during the international motocross of Keiheuvel.
