Preview Belgian Masters of Motocross Keiheuvel
Traditionally, KMC Mol organizes the International Motorcross of Keiheuvel on August 15. The first Belgian Masters of Motocross competition immediately sets the tone because, as always, 'de Keiheuvel' will present an impressive poster on Wednesday!
The Belgian Masters of Motocross formula, the Belgian top championship above the Belgian Motocross Championship, will have a different interpretation than last year. In tandem with Orp-le-Grand on September 8, two very strong organizations are being created.
MX1: Who will succeed Arminas Jasikonis?
Just before the Swiss GP, it was no easy feat for KMC Mol to put together the desired field of participants. Yet they have managed to create an interesting program in both the MX1 and MX2! The top favorites in the MX1 are undoubtedly Glenn Coldenhoff en Max Anstie. What both gentlemen showed in Lommel leaves no doubt about their form! The same can be said of Kevin Strijbos, who made an excellent impression both in the qualifying heat and in the first series.
Furthermore, it is also something to look forward to Shaun Simpson, Alessandro Lupino, Petar Petrov, Max Nagl, Harri Kullas, Jeremy Delincé, Kevin Fors, Greg Smets, Dietger Damiaens, Lars Van Berkel and Jeffrey Dewulf, the best Belgian wildcard rider in Lommel. For Yentel martens Keiheuvel offers a chance for revenge after a disappointing home GP. In the Dutch Masters of Motocross, among others, 'Y-Mart' already showed that he can mix with the GP riders. Unfortunately no Ken De Dycker in Balen because Keeno suffered a broken hand in a fall in Lommel.
Club pilot Jens Getteman This season he is making waves in Germany where he leads the Inter DM championship by a wide margin with one match to go. “The ADAC competitions in Germany are well organized, but KMC Mol is at least at the same level,” Getteman said during the KMC Mol press conference.
MX2: Jago Geerts in his backyard
Balenaar Jago Geerts takes on an excellent field at the Keiheuvel. Jago will certainly go for a win, but the competition is also quite fierce in MX2 with factory riders Thomas Covington, Calvin Flanders, Anthony Rodriguez, winner of the Dutch Masters final round in Lichtenvoorde and strong private drivers such as Brent Van Doninck en Micha-Boy De Waal. August 15 will also be special for Covington. Last year he won the MX2 Joël Roelants trophy dedicated to his trainer and it is one of the last competitions on Belgian soil for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider.
“What is happening now is far beyond expectations,” Jago Geerts said during the press conference. “Kemea told me before the season that nothing was necessary but that everything was possible. That doesn't mean I was there for the bacon and beans. I have already been on the podium once and came second in the qualifying competition in Loket. The fact that I am now seventh in the World Cup means a lot to me. Now I have recently graduated and I can fully focus on racing. De Keiheuvel is literally at our back door, such a competition is always fun. Top players are coming, but they are going to have a hard time with me!”
New Belgian Masters formula
There are 2 series of Inters/Nationals 250 and 2 races of Inters/Nationals 500 that will count for the Belgian Championship. The 15 best riders of the Inters/Nationalen 500 classification and the 10 best riders of the Inters/Nationalen 250 classification will participate in the Superfinal at the end of the day, together with a maximum of 5 riders picked up by the organizer. This Superfinal will count for the Belgian championship Belgian Masters Open. The champion of Belgium at the Belgian Masters will therefore be the rider who has achieved the most points over the 2 super finals, on August 15 in Balen and on September 9 in Orp-le-Grand.
