Kjell Verbruggen excels in Switzerland!
F4E Racing closed the penultimate round in the EMX125 in Frauenfeld-Gachnang with an excellent second day in which both Kjell Verbruggen and Mario Lucas finished in the top 5. Both drivers also reached the top 10 in the final standings. Guest driver Lucas Adam scored five extra points in Switzerland.
As always, the EMX125 attracted a large number of young, talented riders from all over Europe. Among the 64 riders who started the first sessions on Saturday was the returning Wannes van de Voorde, who had broken his collarbone just before his home race in Lommel last month. Although Wannes had completed a local competition in Koningshooikt, he clearly lacked the pace and race rhythm to qualify.
Reigning Spanish 125cc champion Mario Lucas was the fastest of the F4E Racing riders, finishing sixth in his group. In muddy conditions, both Lucas Adam and Kjell Verbruggen did well. They both finished tenth in their respective groups. Verbruggen would probably have set a better qualifying time without the spectacular crash he made in one of his fast laps!
Lucas had a good start in the first moto and started the race just outside the top 10. Ultimately, Mario would finish 12th. Despite a very mediocre start, Lucas Adam fought for what he was worth and finished 16th. Kjell was put to the test when several riders crashed in front of him at the start. Yet the Dutch promise never gave up and won two more valuable championship points.
When the gate dropped on Sunday morning, Verbruggen piloted his KTM 125 SX to a super start just behind Tom Guyon and Mattia Guadagnini. On a wet, muddy and difficult track, Kjell masterfully controlled his race for which he was rewarded with a great third place. A personal best performance for the 15-year-old from Boxtel.
His Spanish teammate Mario Lucas also started well and finished fifth after a consistent performance. On the last day of racing, Adam misses his start. To make matters worse, he also crashed in the first round. The young Belgian did everything he could to earn the last point, but unfortunately he had to settle for 21st place.
On September 15 and 16, F4E Racing will make its last EMX125 appearance of the season in Assen, Netherlands.
Mario Lucas: “Already during timed training I felt good, I was consistent in both motos and that was something I struggled with in the last few races. It is not only great to have a good feeling again, but also to score a lot of points for the championship.”
Kjell Verbruggen: “I am very happy with my weekend! The bike was perfect and I was very happy to hold on to third place in the second moto. In the first moto I already got into trouble at the start, but I kept fighting and I had a good feeling. I think this was also reflected in my rhythm. So considering the circumstances I was quite happy with my performance. That's why it was cool to build on that good feeling in the second moto and finish ninth overall. I would like to thank my mechanic, family and boyfriend for the great weekend.”
Luke Adam: “Overall it was a very good weekend. The first moto was quite good although I missed my start a bit. In the first lap I was 17th and at the end I gained another place. In the second series it was very muddy. I was way back at the start and then I crashed. That crash was too much otherwise I could have come back further. In terms of driving I certainly enjoyed myself, although I must say that I could certainly have done better on these types of circuits. Big thanks to the entire F4E Racing Team and the sponsors. “
Wannes van de Voorde: “It was a very difficult weekend just after my broken collarbone. Like many other riders, I fell heavily during the timed training... That didn't really help! In the repechage I had a good start but I was pushed out too much and in the chase I couldn't make a fist. The last part of the race was better, but I couldn't qualify. Fortunately, we now have some time to prepare for the final round in Assen. “
