Kjell Verbruggen eighth in the Lommel oven
Infamous and fearful is how you can describe the legendarily tough circuit of the Heeserbergen. In addition to the loose sand, riders had to take into account the grueling, hot weather. As expected, Kjell Verbruggen turned out to be the best F4E Racing driver in Lommel with a nice 8th place in the final standings. Guest driver Lucas Adam also managed to distinguish himself.
The guests of F4E Racing had a good holiday atmosphere, thanks to the super cozy catering corner. However, it was a lot of hard work for the drivers and technical staff. No fewer than 100 riders had registered for the 6th round of the 125cc European Championship. After his collarbone fracture, this match came too early for Wannes van de Voorde. The team of Jimmy Verburgh However, homegrown talent still appeared at the start as Lucas Adam came in for Wannes.
Both Kjell, Mario Lucas and Luke Adam qualified directly in the timed training. Verbruggen had the best time of the three, but the 10th time in his group was not enough for a real top place at the fence. Especially on Saturday, the EMX125 riders were physically tested in the first heat. Since the opener was held at the end of the day, the track was very difficult at that time. As an added bonus, it was also oppressively hot. Kjell Verbruggen held up best and finished 13th. Made for his own audience Luke Adam furor with an excellent comeback race. Having started poorly, the 16-year-old Belgian raced to 16th place.
Kjell does even better on Sunday. The young Boxtel native completed a strong series and was able to beat his compatriot Raf Meuwissen. That nice eighth place contrasts with the results of his teammates. Just as showed on Saturday Mario Lucas he has speed, but he lacks regularity in finishing. The two-time Spanish 125cc champion also remained satisfied with a 22nd place in the first and a 26th place in the second round. After a bad start, Lucas Adam faced a tough assignment. Although he returned to 24th place, a fall on the last lap ruined him.
On August 18 and 19, F4E Racing will be in Frauenfeld, Switzerland for the 7th round of the EMX125 Championship.
Kjell Verbruggen: “Clearly satisfied. The riding went well, but despite a reasonable start I still had to get to the front in the opening series. Towards the end of the heat those efforts started to pay off! The next day the track was less difficult because a large part had been leveled. In the second race I went from outside the top 15 to eight, which was really great. Top 10 was always the goal, you always want a few more places, but I am happy that I achieved my goal.”
Luke Adam: “Although I was only told late that I could fill in for F4E Racing in Lommel, it was a very cool experience! The adjustment to the team also went very smoothly. In general I can look back on a good weekend. I felt good on the bike, despite my bad start I came back very strong in the first race. Of course I'm a bit disappointed about the second heat, but that can always happen. I'm really looking forward to visiting Switzerland in two weeks. With good starts I want to play for the top 10.”
Mario Lucas: “I started in the top 10 twice, so that was positive. Too much went wrong in the heats for a good result. I crashed twice in the first heat. In the second race I was in a good position, but I fell on the first lap and had to come back from the back.”
