Julien Lieber extends with Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team
Some press releases raise more questions than they answer. This also includes Kawasaki's announcement that MXGP rookie Julien Lieber will also be competing next year Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team alongside Clément Desalle will come true. Wasn't that the intention from the beginning?
Whether Julien Lieber immediately signed for two years or one year plus an option for a second one at the end of 2017, we will leave open. It is a fact that Lieber started the season with a big backlog in training and testing due to a knee injury with the factory KX450F-SR Kawasaki.
Lieber nevertheless made an impressive debut during the opening round in Argentina, after which many top 10 places followed. Due to injuries early in the British GP, the young Belgian had to compete in two GPs. Since his return, the Kawa rider is still looking for his early season form, but he obviously wants to end 2018 as strongly as possible.
Julien Lieber: “I am very happy to continue with Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team next season. They do a great job, carefully analyzing rider feedback to continue growing together in the same direction. I have a good relationship with the team, not only with the mechanics and management, but also with Clément and I can't wait to test the new engine and get to work for next season. This first year of MXGP was quite difficult for me because I had to recover from surgery before testing the bike. Yet I have already had some good races earlier in the season. Even though the results haven't been so good since my injury in Great Britain, everyone in the team continues to support me and that will definitely help me to be stronger in the coming races. “
Thierry Chizat Suzzoni: “We have been pleased with Julien's performance since the start of the season, even though he was unlucky to get injured in Great Britain. But it hasn't changed our opinion. We know his riding style suits the 450 class and he can work with us all winter to develop the new engine. There is a great collaboration between both riders and we all know how important it is to work in a good atmosphere. Clément and Julien share information and advice to achieve the best results for the team and our partners. It's also great to see that we will continue to work with all our key partners. We have been working with Monster Energy for five years and it is a pleasure to continue this relationship. Which is also the case with the other well-known brands such as Motorex, Thor, Pro Circuit, Alpinestars and Dunlop, all of which help us reach another level. Kawasaki has presented a brand new KX450, so we are in for a busy winter to prepare for the next season. But we have an excellent team and excellent partners who are ready for the next challenge. “
