Herlings dominates competition again in MXGP of Bulgaria!
The seventeenth race of the season has already been held on the beautiful Sevlievo circuit in Bulgaria. Once again it was Jeffrey Herlings, who won both rounds in this Grand Prix, without even having to go deep.
The Dutchman came out of the starting gate well in both heats, immediately managing to grab the competition by the throat. In the first round, his championship competitor, Antonio Cairoli, had a poorer start. The Sicilian only came through the first round in tenth place, which immediately guaranteed a good result. While “The Bullet” cruised to victory, with Tim Gajser and Clément Desalle taking second and third places, Antonio Cairoli fought back to eighth place. This is behind Jeremy Van Horebeek and Julien Lieber and ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff. Kevin Strijbos finished fifteenth in this heat and Nathan Renkens twentieth.
In the second moto both fighting cocks got off to a good start. Initially it was Antonio Cairoli who took the lead, but after half a lap Jeffrey Herlings saw his opportunity to put the Sicilian in his place. However, the Italian picked up well and the “old tough champion” gave everything he had to stay in the wheel of his competitor. Something he succeeded in for a very long time, but after two-thirds of the race “222” cracked and Jeffrey Herlings was then able to ride to victory unthreatened. Behind the two KTM fighters, Tim Gajser proved to be the strongest ahead of Clément Desalle and Romain Febvre.
Glenn Coldenhoff finished seventh in this heat, Kevin Strijbos finished eleventh and Jeremy Van Horebeek, who crashed in the first corner, scored a strong thirteenth place. Nathan Renkens and Julien Lieber both had a “Didn't Finish”.
The victory in the Grand Prix naturally went to Jeffrey Herlings with his two series victories. Second was Tim Gajser on the podium and third we saw Clément Desalle on the podium. Antonio Cairoli missed the podium by a few points due to his poor first heat.
