Ferrandis makes it nice again in muddy Unadilla!
The AMA Motocross event took place on one of the more beautiful circuits on the calendar, but this year, just like last season, the race was hit by sad rainy weather. The rain had transformed the track into a muddy landscape, a landscape in which Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis clearly felt best.
Fortunately, the rain itself stopped just before the start of the first heat in Unadilla, and so the pilots only had to battle what the rain had wrought. Because what a muddy mess Mother Nature had made of it! A mess that Rockstar Energy Husqvarna pilot Michael Mosiman initially felt best about. The young man took the holeshot and built a lead over the rest of the field. After a few laps, however, Dylan Ferrandis was able to reduce Michael Mosiman's lead little by little. To take over the lead in the race after a crash by the Husqvarna pilot on the fifth lap. Dylan Ferrandis then put a lot of pressure on it, even a small crash and contact with the fence could no longer keep the Frenchman from victory in the first round! Behind him, teammate Aaron Plessinger finished second ahead of TLD KTM pilot Shane McElrath. This KTM pilot took advantage of a crash by Mitchell Harrison in the very last phase of the race to finish third. Mitchell Harrison himself then finished fourth ahead of Chase Sexton and the unfortunate Michael Mosiman.
Second series meant new opportunities for everyone. In the first corner, however, these new opportunities immediately went up in smoke for Michael Mosiman, who crashed with several others in a starting crash. The holeshot was again for Cameron McAdoo, the Geico Honda pilot. After a few turns we got McAdoo, J. Smith, Harrison and Ferrandis in the front. However, Jordan Smith soon broke his nerve, under the immense pressure of Mitchell Harrison. After a few laps it was Cameron McAdoo's turn to continue under the increasing pressure. He then saw Harrison, Ferrandis, Plessinger and Savatgy speed past.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Harrison had taken the lead in the race, but the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna pilot felt the hot breath of his former Yamaha teammates Dylan Ferrandis and Aaron Plessinger. These three pilots were all sitting on a handkerchief. Dylan Ferrandis tried to take the lead, but was immediately countered by both competitors and fell back to third place. We had an intense final phase with more of these actions until Mitchell Harrison who was still the leader in the race came into contact with one of the doubled pilots. Mitchel Harrison lost the lead in the race and also his podium place, leaving Joey Savatgy behind.
At the front, Dylan Ferrandis and Aaron Plessinger disputed who could be crowned the best mud devil in Unadilla. With two minutes plus two laps left on the tables, Dylan Ferrandis took a better line than his teammate. This was also the signal to fly like a rocket to a double series victory. Aaron Plessinger finished second at five seconds and Joey Savatgy finished third. Mitchell Harrison finished fourth, just like in the first moto, and this was enough to take the overall podium, third overall!
In the championship, Alex Martin has now really ruined it, if Aaron Plessinger has no injuries, the Yamaha pilot will be able to add this AMA 250 Motocross title to his list of achievements. Even more striking is Dylan Ferrandis' fifth place in the championship, taking into account the fact that the Frenchman missed the first three rounds due to injury.
