EMX125 Lommel: Guadagnini wins, Meuwissen sixth
There was no shortage of surprising twists in the second EMX125. However, Guadagnini, who finished second yesterday, crowned himself the deserved overall winner. The Italian won the second round this morning ahead of Filip Olsson and Raivo Dankers. Raf Meuwissen finished seventh today and took sixth place in the final standings.
Arvid Lüning took the holeshot ahead of Andrea Bonacorsi, Mattia Guadagnini and Raivo Dankers. Neither Thibault Benistant, yesterday's winner, and his closest title rival Emil Weckman had a good start. Starting 13th, Weckman's plan was brutally thrown out in the first round. Weckman fell into a hole and was mercilessly thrown from the motorcycle. After this, the fast Finn disappeared from the match.
Guadagnini stole the lead from Lüning on the second lap. The only one who seemed capable of threatening the Italian was Raivo Dankers. Dankers rode a smart race. The former 85cc world champion systematically rose to the top. In the 9th round Raivo seemed ready to attack, but unfortunately he made a mistake and fell to the ground. Guadagnini was thus given a free pass, he eventually easily recorded his third series victory of the season - also the third in the last three EMX125 competitions.
In the nick of time, Thibault Benistant took the lead in the standings. After his weak start, the MJC Yamaha rider came back nicely, but he had to start all over again when Petr Polak crashed just in front of him and he could no longer avoid the Czech. Benistant managed to turn a potentially bad day into a positive end result. Due to Rene Hofer's serious injury, Benistant goes to the last two games with a reassuring bonus of 54 points over his closest pursuer, Guadagnini.
In addition to the regular Raf Meuwissen, Kjell Verbruggen also attracted the spotlight again. The young F4E Racing rider finished eighth overall and was eighth in the second moto. Patrick Caps' protégé, Lucas Adam, did not score in the closing game.
