Double top-10 Mathias Van Hoof in Vagney
For the 7th and 8th rounds of the Belgian Enduro Championship we traveled to Vagney in the French Vosges. On both Saturday and Sunday, 200 km of tough connections had to be driven with 90% off-road, a lot of stones and temperatures above 30 degrees made it a true war of attrition.
Add to that 2 very technical specials on the French mountain slopes, you have all the ingredients for a wonderful competition.
“What a tough race it was. Both the tests and the connection were completely destroyed. The subsoil was so dry that it was immediately plowed. I started well on Saturday with an immediate top 10 time on SP1. During the following specials I kept having problems with the stones and got stuck.”
Despite the difficulties, the Beta Denicol pilot from Herentals achieved his best result of the year with a 10th place scratch from the Belgians.
“On Sunday I got up a bit stiff and stiff. I also noticed that on sp1 where things didn't go well. The next 3 specials went very well with 2 top 10 times. In the last round with 2 specials to go I was completely exhausted. I had used too much energy on the difficult connection and I noticed that I had two falls as a result. This was the most beautiful but at the same time the toughest race I have ever done. I had to endure a lot, learn a lot and gain a lot of experience on all those French stones!, a tired but satisfied Mathias said afterwards. Due to the 2 crashes at the end of the day, he just lost 9th place by just 0.45 sec. Nevertheless, the 1st year Inter pilot can be satisfied with a 10th place in scratch and a 2nd place in E3. The 2h of La Chinelle is on the program within 12 weeks.
