The bitter rivalry between the Bax brothers
Sometimes you have those articles, interviews and videos that get under your skin. This interview with brothers Robbie and Etienne Bax from “Sports Vice” is one of them. That is why we would like to recommend it to you and congratulations to Sam van Raalte, the man behind this piece!
I am standing in the blazing sun in front of a huge warehouse in Bergeijk. Etienne Bax arrives in a black van. “Hey boy, how are you?” he asks. “Is Robbie coming soon too?” I say I hope so. Etienne (29) and Robbie Bax (26) are brothers and each other's biggest rivals at the top of sidecar racing. Today I want to get them to the table together for the first time in years to talk about their rivalry.
It has to happen here in Bergeijk. We agreed to meet at Etienne's workshop, who has now parked his van. Etienne lives for sidecar racing. He even missed the birth of his first child because he was racing a Grand Prix in France at the time. “I also call this sport a disease,” he says, after which he pours two cups of coke. Then we hear a car approaching the warehouse.
