Barcia triumphs again after three years, in the 450 Ironman National
Mud makes races unpredictable, some pilots don't like it, others are lost in their minds before the gate has fallen because they hate slipping in the mud. Someone who finds mud absolutely no problem is clearly Justin Barcia.
The Factory Yamaha pilot, who it was announced that he will also represent the colors of Yamaha next season, already showed this a few weeks ago in a muddy Unadilla. Only bad starts hindered his ability to achieve a good result. Eager for revenge on himself, “BamBam” did not want to miss this opportunity to shine in the mud.
The American didn't do that either! For Justin Barcia, it had already been three years since Red Bud's AMA 450 National in which he beat Marvin Musquin and the then still active Ryan Dungey, among others, that he managed to achieve a victory. Until now, because with two series victories he took the overall victory. In both heats the Yamaha pilot took the holeshot, but due to a mistake in the first heat he had to compete with Phil Nicoletti and Eli Tomac. It didn't take long before Justin Barcia regained control of Phil Nicoletti's lead and in one fell swoop also overthrew Eli Tomac with his blistering pace. Barcia logically won ahead of Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen. The only competitor for Eli Tomac' and extending his title, Marvin Musquin finished fourth ahead of Chad Reed who competed once for the JGR Suzuki team this weekend. Phil Nicoletti ultimately only finished sixth.
With one moto to go, twentieth place would be enough for Eli Tomac to extend his AMA 450 Outdoor title if Marvin Musquin were to win the series. In this last round of the season, Justin Barcia took the holeshot and it was Ken Roczen who was able to stay close for the longest time, but the German had to let the American mud devil go meter by meter in the second instance. For third place we briefly got a duel between 2019 teammates Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin. The Frenchman advanced to third place but already knew that this was not enough for the title. Cooper Webb and Blake Baggett completed the top five in this second heat. Eli Tomac, who knew what he had to do to win the title, finished ninth, behind Chad Reed and ahead of another occasional participant, Valentin Teillet. This Valentin Teillet, also called TinTin, also finished in eighth position in the first heat!
In the total settlement, Justin Barcia obviously won the day's prize, ahead of Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin. However, the main prize that everyone strives for all season long was for the man who finished “only” fourth today, namely Eli Tomac! He will also compete again next year with number one in the AMA Motocross event. Now we are already looking forward like a child to Sinterklaas because today's winners are Justin Barcia and Aaron Plessinger together with Eli Tomac taking on the world at the Motocross des Nations! Let that come already!
