Will Jeremy Seewer replace Van Horebeek?
It was previously announced that Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing would not renew the contract with Jeremy Van Horebeek. The 28-year-old Belgian had to ride around injured too often this year to reach his best level. Yet 'the Jerre' performed very consistently in five seasons as a Yamaha rider.
A changing of the guard with a young rider next Romain Febvre comes, that seems to be the main reason for Yamaha not to continue with Van Horebeek. The fact that the Belgian's sporting ceiling is now clear and the salary expectations of a permanent fixture who has been a factory driver since 2010 do not play in the favor of 'the Jerre' either.
As a replacement for Van Horebeek is mainly Jeremy Seewer tipped. The Swiss MXGP rookie is having an excellent first season and will also be under contract with Yamaha next year. “I can only say that I signed for Yamaha Europe for two years, it is not stipulated that it concerns one specific team,” Seewer said. “So we decide together where I could ride. Wilvo Yamaha is already a very nice and well-organized team. I feel very comfortable here even though we haven't even been together for a full season yet. The team is very professional in their approach. I am very happy here. There are little things that I would personally like to improve to build my 'little castle' of people around me. Just like I did at Suzuki with the people around me, but of course something like that takes time.”
Ordered before Jeremy Van Horebeek the chances of a (semi) factory seat seem very small. The number of free places in the MXGP is currently very limited.
