Thomas Covington is back on the GP podium.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Thomas Covington battled for victory in the fourteenth round of the MX2 World Championship in Loket, Czech Republic. Covington managed to finish in second place in both heats and finished third in the overall standings.
Covington showed up strongly on the technical circuit of Loket. The weekend couldn't have started better on Saturday as Covington won the qualifying heat and took pole position. With the two second places he achieved in the heats, he remains in sixth place in the MX2 World Championship standings.
Thomas Kjer Olsen managed to continue his good form of recent weeks in Loket. After finishing third in the qualifying heat, he crashed at the start of the first heat. From last place he fought all the way back to seventh place and added fourth place later in the day, placing him fifth in the overall standings.
In two weeks, the home Grand Prix of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will be on the calendar in Lommel, Belgium.
Commentary Thomas Covington: “It was a good weekend and I am happy that I managed to achieve two good results. It also felt good that I managed to win the qualifying heat on Saturday. In the first moto I got a good start and after a number of overtaking maneuvers I managed to take the lead. I was a little cramped and Flanders managed to pass me. Despite this I thought the riding went well and I was happy with second place. In the second moto I got a better start but I had trouble passing Jacobi. Once I had it, I found myself lagging behind Prado. I gave it my all and managed to close the gap to Prado. I did everything I could to catch him and win the Grand Prix. Unfortunately it was not to be. All in all I'm happy with my speed. My engine is working well and I will continue to fight for the day's victories.”
Commentary Thomas Kjer Olsen: “I am satisfied with fifth place in the daily rankings. It's not the highest possible result, but after my crash in the first moto, it was the most I could do. After the fall I had to go deep to come back from last place to seventh. It was a tough race in which I lost a lot of energy. The start of the second moto was much better and by the second lap I was in third place. In the beginning I had difficulty setting a good pace, but as the race progressed this got better. I am satisfied with my fourth place. I gave it my all this weekend and that's what matters most. I am now looking forward to the Grand Prix in Lommel.”
