Thomas Covington takes another top three ranking!
Thomas Covington of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing achieved a top three place in the thirteenth round of the MX2 World Championship in Semarang, Indonesia. After Covington crashed on the first lap in the first moto, he fought his way to third place in the second moto and finished fifth overall.
The second consecutive race in Indonesia was held on the Semarang circuit. The circuit had a hard, slippery surface, which required very concentrated driving in both heats. After qualifying fifth on Saturday, Covington went for his fourth consecutive podium finish on Sunday.
In the first moto he crashed on the first lap, but the American gave chase and managed to finish seventh. In the second heat he achieved a strong third place and remains in sixth place in the standings.
Thomas Kjer Olsen had mixed success in this Grand Prix. Olsen was involved in the same crash as Covington in the first moto but came back to eleventh place. In the second heat he managed to achieve a strong fourth place and thus took seventh place in the daily rankings. With these results he remains in third place in the world championship standings.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's next Grand Prix is scheduled for two weeks in Loket, Czech Republic.
Commentary Thomas Covington: “I felt I had good speed all weekend and I fought for the podium until the closing stages of the second moto. In the first moto I got a good start, but because Olsen fell right in front of me, I could no longer avoid him and fell too. I gave it my all in the rest of the heat and ended up seventh. Things started better in the second moto and I quickly managed to work my way up to second place. Due to the crash in the first moto I gave a little too much, which made me tired in the second moto. As a result, I had to settle for third place. After what happened in the first heat, I am happy with fifth place in the overall standings. I look forward to returning to Europe.”
Commentary Thomas Kjer Olsen: “It was an up and down weekend for us but I am happy with my performance in the second round. After I had a good start in the first moto, I crashed on a landing which made everything difficult for me. My front brake was damaged in the crash and as a result I had no brakes for the rest of the moto. Things went better in the second moto. I quickly took fourth place and then rode my own race. I did my best this weekend and if I hadn't crashed in the first moto, my overall result would have been a lot better."
