Plessinger scores double at Spring Creek Millville!
This weekend the AMA Motocross event traveled to Minnesota. The home state of Ryan Dungey and the Martin brothers, among others. In the 250cc, due to Jeremy Martin's serious back injury, only one of the two brothers was at the start of their home race. Literally a home race because their parents live on and own the domain and therefore also the cross course.
For Alex Martin there was one golden rule, trying not to let Aaron Plessinger get further ahead in the championship. A plan that was almost immediately thrown into the trash in the first heat. In this first moto we saw Joey Savatgy take the holeshot. But his reign was short-lived, as the Pro Circuit pilot lost his balance on the first lap, giving Jordon Smith the opportunity to take the lead. Behind him we saw Austin Forkner, Justin Cooper and Aaron Plessinger. This allowed the leading three to take a break before calling them to order after a few laps. One by one, the championship leader rolled over his predecessors to take the lead in the race on the fifth lap. Once in the lead was the signal for him to race through to victory in this first heat. Fortunately, there was still some competition for second place, but at the finish it was Austin Forkner who was superior to Jordan Smith. The teammate of Aaron Plessinger and Rookie Justin Cooper finished fourth with Shane McElrath behind him. And what about Alex Martin… The Troy Lee KTM pilot had a horror first moto, because despite a reasonable start he did not get further than seventh place, Dylan Ferrandis scored even worse with his eleventh place.
The second heat now brought the crowd more treats from home pilot Alex Martin, who took the holeshot. Those present immediately saw that their pilot had to clash with Aaron Plessinger. However, very soon all the dreaming home fans had their dreams and expectations dashed. In the first lap Aaron Plessinger already put himself in the leading position. Initially, Alex Martin seemed to be able to follow the championship leader, but after a few laps the lead slowly but surely increased. Aaron Plessinger cleverly secured a second moto victory of the day, ahead of local hero Alex Martin and the extremely strong Justin Cooper, making his debut with the pros. The top five was completed with Joey Savatgy and Chase Sexton. Dylan Ferrandis had his first bad weekend this weekend since his return from injury with his eleventh place in the first moto and now "only" an eighth place in this second moto.
With his two victories, Aaron Plessinger is not only the overall winner of the Pro Motocross National in Millville, ahead of Justin Cooper (4-3) and Alex Martin (7-2). With these victories he also increases his lead in the championship to 49 points, over closest competitor Alex Martin.
