Jens Van Meer dominates VLM in Retie
The organizing MC Hanenberg of Jurgen Van Nooten did justice to the reputation of the classic in Retie. The riders could therefore enjoy a perfect circuit. At the Inters 500, Jens Van Meer took the lead, the BeTeMo rider steered his KTM to a double series victory.
Win twice just before you leave on holiday. There are worse ways to start your leave, we think! Jens Van Meer easily took victory in the first series after his pole position in timed training. After his holeshot, he led from start to finish. Greg Smets, who picked up Kevin van Geldorp, finished second by a wide distance.
In the final series, Van Meer did his trick again. Smets came second again, this time ahead of Kenny Janssens. Janssens was allowed to reach the final podium due to his better second series, although he finished on equal points with Van Geldorp. The surprise of the day came from the young Spaniard Simeo Ubach. The 2017 Spanish National MX2 Champion finished a strong fourth overall in the second moto. However, in the 250 day position, the KTM rider had to let veteran Jonathan Banken go first. Kristof Scheynen came third.
Unlucky man of the day was Kristof Salaets, who played his second match since his return at the Duinberg. The likeable veteran was second in the first heat. Unfortunately, Stopsel had an unfortunate fall and bruised his chest and hurt his hand. Fortunately, without too much damage in both cases, but starting again in the second heat was no longer an option.
