Jago Geerts takes Dutch 250 title!
It was certainly nail-biting for the supporters of Jago Geerts. Despite pressure from Calvin Vlaanderen, the talented Kemea Yamaha rider eventually managed to get the job done during the Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde, where the final of the Dutch Masters of Motocross took place.
Geerts started with an ankle injury that he sustained last weekend in Indonesia. Nevertheless, he completed his assignment successfully. Thanks to a fourth place in the final heat and a third place in the first heat, Geerts ultimately maintained a four-point lead over Flanders. The Honda factory rider did become the winner of the day. Anthony Rodriguez, who won the second round, completed the KEMEA-Yamaha success and took second place on the day's podium.
While warming up for the first heat, Flanders' gearbox broke down. The mechanics battle against the clock, but the HRC men win this battle. With the redplate, Geerts makes the best start, the rider from Balen has a nine-point lead over Flanders. The KEMEA driver is followed by Horgmo and Anthony Rodriguez. Flanders has just started in the top ten but has worked its way to fifth place in three rounds. After more than five minutes, Rodriguez sets the Noor Horgmo aside, causing him to fall. Geerts has already built up a four-second lead.
Flanders is chasing Sterry's third place, but he is not going to give up easily. Halfway through the race things go wrong for leader Geerts! He falls and sees Flanders pass by, who then goes on the warpath. He passes Sterry and chases 23-year-old Rodriguez. However, he cannot be pulled back. The difference even increases from four to seven seconds! Sterry and Geerts bury the hatchet for third place. The Brit distances himself from the 18-year-old Belgian. This one runs a good race and does exactly what it should do. Behind Rodriguez, Vlaanderen and Sterry, Geerts finished fourth and that earned him the title! Horgmo finished fifth and ended the Dutch Masters of Motocross on a good note.
