In the picture: John Oostvogels
He is usually in Lommel ready to shoot some nice images, but this time John Oostvogels himself is in the picture. He selected his 10 favorite images especially for us, and tells us what exactly makes these images so special to him. So look and enjoy the 10 nicest photos of John Oostvogels here.
John Oostvogels: Let me first introduce myself. I am John Oostvogels, 47 years old, and I live in Lommel with my lovely wife and children. I have had a great passion for photography and Motorcross for years, but when MXMag asked me to list 10 photos that have a special meaning to me, I hesitated for a moment. I don't think I'm good enough in this world yet. But yes... that must be human, right?
Okay... after much deliberation, I finally found a number of images that mean a little more to me than the rest, and that have a bit of a story or pride behind them.
1: Well, who else could I start with than Nick Triest. It is thanks to him that I ended up in this world a little faster than I initially thought. I went to Nick's training many times, and I also followed many of his matches that year. This photo was taken sometime in August 1 during training in Lommel. the great thing about Nick was and is that he always guarantees some special action photos like this one.
2: My youngest son Travis always came with me to the circuit in Lommel, especially during the first years. He was already a big fan of Todd Waters, probably because he was allowed to ride along the starting field a few times that day. Great to see him beaming like that, and Todd Waters is just a very nice and friendly guy.
3: Joël Roelants just 1 year after his serious crash in Italy. Joël was present at the very last performance of Everts and friends. What an experience this was for me. There were many emotional people around me, which made this day even more special. Very impressive! And a lot of respect for this gentleman!
4: This photo comes from a photo shoot with New Zealander Wyatt Chase. Wyatt came to live in Lommel with his mother in 2016 to make it in the EMX series. What made a huge impression on me is that the then only 16-year-old Wyatt worked on his bike himself between the heats. An enormous talent who has been cheated twice by different people (the second time was the story of the TM Sattelite team that Wyatt would drive for in 2). A very unfortunate affair, but apparently that is also part of this sport nowadays. Fortunately, I still have regular contact with the Chase family to this day.
5: What more can be said about this man? Jeffrey Herlings what a king! I took this photo in June 2016 where he was already training on the KTM450. Why this photo has meaning for me is because Jeffrey had also shared this photo himself. This of course resulted in a huge number of likes, and gave me a very proud feeling that he used my photo for publication.
6: In March 2016, I received a message from Arno van den brink asking if I was interested in taking some cornering action photos of the HSF Logistic boys. This was because photos were needed to make posters and the like. Of course I thought this was a great honor, and I took a lot of photos that day. This was one by Brian Bogers that was actually used for the poster.
7: This is a portrait photo of Pauls Jonass during the Valkenswaar GP in 2016. For me, this was the first time that I was actually allowed on the track as a press photographer, which also allowed me to get closer to the pilots. This photo was published by Pauls Jonass on various social media pages, which always gives me a feeling of pride.
8: Again Nick Triest, but this time a photo we took during one of our joint photo shoots. This photo was for Great injuries.
9: SMX Gelsenkirchen. Too bad it wasn't the success it should have been in my opinion. Fantastic participants and competitions, and this time I was also allowed to work as a press photographer. I was also able to capture Ryan Dungey before he hung up the helmet.
10: Not yet known to many, but for the past 2 years I have been allowed to do Jitse Torfs' annual photo shoot as a photographer. I have come to know the Torfs family in recent years as very friendly people, and I am also very proud that I can (hopefully) continue to do this for years to come.
Here are my top 10. Of course, as a photographer you have some more moments that you cherish, but these stand out a bit for me.
I would like to thank MXMag for allowing me to do this for you.
Sporty MX greetings, John Oostvogels from MOTOXpics
