Daniel Willemsen and Robbie Bax win the sidecar cross GP of Germany!
Daniel Willemsen and Robbie Bax won the sidecar cross Grand Prix of Germany with force majeure. They came first twice and took victory in Bessenbach to loud cheers from the entire audience. The surprise of the day was Julian Veldman, who crowned his 19th birthday with second place in the heats twice. Bax/Stupelis finished third in the day's results and were slightly ahead of team Vanluchene and team Hermans in the World Cup standings. The last two sidecars kept each other in balance in terms of the number of World Cup points achieved and that meant that Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart are clearly on course for the title.
The qualifications were no problem for the regular GP riders from the Benelux. Veldman won group A and Hermans took victory in group B.
In the last chance we saw a number of Belgians and Dutch people who tried to qualify. Unfortunately, this did not work out for Van Calster/Van Gennip and the visibly disappointed Dylan Boussy. The initial winner of the last change, the Frenchman Aufray, must have been more disappointed. He was disqualified because he used the pit exit as an entrance and the gentlemen of the FIM were therefore unrelenting. Disqualification followed for the bewildered Frenchman who had come to Bessenbach for nothing even though he had taken first place in the last change.
Heat 1
The holeshot in the first heat went to Veldman, whose AMS shot up like a bullet after falling from the gate.
Behind Veldman it was Willemsen, Giraud and surprisingly the Frenchman Thomas with Siebe van der Putten in the box. Hermans had a bad start and was left standing, meaning he had to start the race last.
Willemsen/Bax immediately managed to increase the pressure on Veldman/Janssens and after a number of laps they were able to take over the lead. They then drove away from the pursuers lap after lap and won the first heat with ease.
The year-old Veldman, who is 19 years old as of today, then got Giraud in the neck but managed to stay ahead of him and even rode away for a while in the final phase. Veldman gave himself a nice birthday present by crossing the finish line second. Giraud finished third, with Vanluchene close behind. After ten minutes of competition, Vanluchene team Bax/Stupelis was in the neck and the large audience saw a great battle for fourth place. No matter what Bax tried, he couldn't get past it. Vanluchene finished fourth and Bax fifth.
After an incredibly good catch-up race, Hermans/Musset finished sixth, after starting last. Varik/Daiders were in sixth place for a long time, but had to settle for seventh place at the finish.
Some distance behind, Thomas/Van der Putten crossed the line in eighth after their super start. At nine we saw Wilkinson/Chamberlain continue under the finish flag and the top ten was closed by the Czech Cermak brothers.
Sanders/Haller and Dierckens/Rostingt finished 13th and 14th in succession after a poor start. After a good race, Keuben/Rietman took a lot of points in 16th place and behind this Santermans came in 17th after a setback in the initial phase when they had stopped for a while.
Roes/Van Hal took home a nice 18th place and therefore also picked up points. Unfortunately, this did not apply to Van Werven/Mans who would drop out.
Heat 2
After the necessary mittagruhe, the gate opened for the GP Sidecars for the second time at 16 p.m.
Once again Veldman flew up fast, but the cannibal from Lochem, Daniel Willemsen, was just a little faster and took the lead. Brown was third at the start, followed by Dierckens and Thomas.
Willemsen/Bax were old-fashioned loose and, despite Veldman's good pace, rode away quickly in two to have an almost quarter-circuit lead halfway through the race. After that, the pace could be slowed down a bit and Willemsen once again crossed the line first and became the glorious winner of the day in Bessenbach, taking first place twice in the heats.
Veldman/Janssens did well again on second and almost got Bax in the neck in the final phase. However, Veldman/Janssens persevered and 'the Frogg' from Kampen deservedly took second place and therefore also second place in the daily total. Third came Bax, who battled with Dierckens for third place for a long time and in turn received a visit from Hermans. Dierckens held on well in third place until disaster struck and Dierckens unfortunately had to drop out with bad luck ten minutes before the end of the game. Very unfortunate because Arne Dierckens and Luc Rostingt rode a hell of a race.
All in all, Bax finished third and therefore also third in the day's results in Bessenbach.
Hermans/Musset then finished fourth in the second heat, followed by Giraud at fifth and Vanluchene at six. Varik/Daiders again rode a solid race and finished seventh and in eighth place we again saw the Frenchman Thomas who had a good day in the German Grand Prix together with Siebe Van der Putten. This also applied to Wilkinson who finished ninth and the Kunnas brothers from Finland came in a deserved tenth.
At eleven we saw Keuben/Rietman cross the line, who took a truckload of World Cup points from Germany.
Sanders finished 14th but unfortunately the rest of the Belgian and Dutch teams did not score any points. Van Werven, like Dierckens, dropped out again with bad luck, Santermans crashed hard, causing driver Beleckas to remain crocky on the track for a while and Roes/Van Hal were one of the last to leave at the start and ended up in 22nd place, but that meant no points. .
Willemsen gloriously won the Grand Prix in Bessenbach and Veldman/Janssens were clearly the vice winners with their nice second place. Bax also did well with his third place on the podium.
The red plate remains with Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart, who scored the same number of points as Hermans and with a 62-point lead and three GPs to go, they clearly remain on the title track.
