Aspers and Meuwissen win IMBA youth in Berghem.
During the international youth weekend in Berghem, the third competition was on the program for the IMBA 85cc and the IMBA MX2 youth. Spread over two days, four heats per class were fought for European Championship points. This resulted in two Dutch winners with Romano Aspers and EigtyOne BCS Racing rider Raf Meuwissen.

The battle for victory was between Ivano van Erp and Romano Aspers (photo). On Saturday, van Erp managed to win both heats, but Aspers was on his rear wheel in particular in the second heat. Aspers, in turn, held off the Dane Jayden Young Schmidt, who laid a good foundation as a podium candidate. Championship leader Jan Krug (Germany) also did well with two fourth places and the third Dutchman Danny van den Bosse completed the top five on the day.
On Sunday it was again Yamaha rider Van Erp and Aspers who fought each other for the victory. Van Erp fell on the first lap of the third moto, but managed to ride back to second place. The third heat ended badly for Schmidt. Lying in second place, he crashed and fell far back. He would also not appear at the start of the fourth heat.
The fourth round would determine who would take the overall victory. Aspers showed that he had learned well from Saturday and also won the fourth round ahead of Van Erp. Based on Sunday's two heat victories, Aspers won the overall classification ahead of Van Erp. Krug took third and fourth places on Sunday to take third place on the podium. Van de Bosse ultimately fell just short of the podium and finished fourth. Fifth place overall went to the Dane Frederik Eskildsen.
In the European Championship standings, Krug is in the lead with 96 points, followed by Hugi Kristoffersen (Den). Van den Bosse is the first Dutchman in third place. After their absence in Berghem, the Belgians do not play a significant role in the European Championship.
IMBA MX2 youth
Big stars at the IMBA MX2 youth race were the Dutchman Raf Meuwissen and the Hungarian Adam Zolt Kovacs. Boyd van der Voorn (Ned), Rutger Baauw (Ned), Rowan Driessen (Ned) and the Dane Kasper Baek Iversen managed to resist this duo, especially in the second round and the fourth round. Meuwissen ultimately won all four heats and Kovacs took second place in the overall rankings with three second and fourth places. Van der Voorn achieved the last place on the podium with three third places and a second place in the heats. Rowan Driessen ended up just shy of the podium in fourth place, but can certainly look back on a good weekend. Fifth place went to Rutger Baauw (Ned).
The leader in the European Championship standings Marvin Müller (Germany) had a difficult time in the Dutch sand and eventually achieved 16th place. Maarten de Cock was the only Belgian participant this weekend, but only came to the starting gate for the first round.
Van der Voorn takes over the lead in the European Championship standings. He is followed by Müller and Madox Bleiker (Zwi). Rick Wennekes is the second Dutchman for Meuwissen.
