Unstoppable Yentel Martens in VLM Lummen
Fortunately, postponement did not mean a cancellation for the canceled VLM competition in Lummen (early April)! Cannibal Yentel Martens (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) took his sixth VLM victory of the season at the Kwezelstraat.
Only 27 Inters behind the starting gate in Lummen. However, in terms of the quality of the participants, there was little to criticize about the organization of Fun MX! Cedric Grobben (SHR Motorsports/Bagger Paul) took pole from the dominant Yentel Martens in the morning. Dietger Damiaens, Jens Van Meer and Thomas Vermijl were all within 2 seconds of Grobben.
Martens grabbed the holeshot in the first series but could not rest on his laurels. Cedric Grobben showed that he is growing back to his best form. Starting sixth, Grobben caught up early with Vermijl, Engelen and Van Geldorp. After three laps, Damiaens, who was third, was also killed. In the last two laps, Yentel dropped the pace, Cedric stepped up his game and finished second at 3,7 seconds. As a consolation prize, the SHR Motorsports/Bagger Paul driver recorded the fastest lap. Damiaens finished a creditable third shortly after Grobben. At the end, Van Meer and Van Geldrop fought a prestige duel for fourth place. For Jens, fourth place was the highest possible after a catch-up race caused by a mediocre start.
Once again Martens performed well in the second series, but Fun MX club rider Damiaens and Jens Van Meer were also present. Van Meer made the most of his much better start. Although Yentel was at the front, the Lummen crowd was treated to a great battle behind the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider. After all, Van Meer, Damiaens and Grobben were worth each other. In the end, Dietger came out ahead of Van Meer and Grobben. A regular Kevin van Geldorp finished fifth (5-6) after the four tenors who took the lead.
In the 250 class there was no match for Rob Konings who won both heats. Kristof Scheynen (3-2) was allowed to take the second highest podium thanks to a better second series than Brent Aerden (2-3).
Everything results here.
