Top 10 beckons for Avrie Berry
The young American from the KTM Diga Junior Racing team continued her rise this weekend during the 4th round of the FIM WMX World Championship. An 11-12 score gave Avrie Berry in Ottobiano an 11th place overall. Berry is currently 16th in the World Cup standings.
Earlier this month, Avrie finished seventh in the second round of the WMX European Championship in Dreetz, Germany. This not only allowed her to rise to seventh place in the European Championship standings, but also gave her confidence ahead of the difficult match in Ottobiano.
For the second time this season, KTM Diga Junior Racing Team traveled to Italy. Due to the injuries of EMX250 riders Miro Sihvonen and Damian Kojs, the responsibility to defend the Diga colors rested entirely on the shoulders of Avrie Berry.
Thanks to an excellent start in the first heat, Avrie secured an excellent starting position. A mistake in the opening round sent Berry back to the 13th position. However, thanks to a strong second lap, the KTM Diga Junior Racing rider got back into the right rhythm. On a tough track and in hot conditions, she crossed the line in 20th place after 11 minutes and two laps. Immediately her best performance of the season.
Today the WMX riders were the first to hit the track for their second series. This way they could benefit from a slightly cooler temperature while the track was a bit faster. This time Avrie started around the top 10. She was 12th for almost the entire race. Although Berry was faster in the three final laps than home rider Francesca Nocera just ahead of her, she narrowly had to bow her head. At the finish the difference with Nocera was barely 0,617 seconds.
Avrie Berry: “Overall it was a very good weekend. I had a great start in the top-5 in the first moto but made a mistake on the first lap. I was a bit slower in the second series, but it was a very regular race. I'm happy with the progress I've made since the start of the season. In Italy I now finished just outside the top 10. But I know my worth and that top 10 should come soon! That's why I'm really looking forward to the coming matches.”
