EMX125: Benistant and Elzinga make the French cheer.
In Saint Jean d'Angely, Thibault Benistant (photo) had his home crowd cheering during the first round of the European 125cc Championship. The 15-year-old rider from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, just south of Orange, won by a wide margin over Rene Hofer. By finishing third, Rick Elzinga provided even more happy faces to his French team!
In front of his own audience, Florian Moit makes the best start ahead of James Scott and Benistant. The New Zealander from the Belgian FMX4Ever Team then takes the lead. Even before completing the first lap, Benistant manages to pass Scott. The MJC Yamaha rider immediately distances himself and then rides a lonely race. Hofer started the match narrowly in the top ten and needs some time to get into the match. When the Austrian takes second place from Elzinga, the leader is already almost 20 seconds ahead. After his serious wrist injury, Elzinga is riding really well, the rider from Zenderen comes in a very good third! Fourth place goes to Matteo Guadagnini, the winner of the competition in Teutschenthal. The top five is completed by Scott. Raivo Dankers crosses the finish line in twelfth position, while fellow countryman Raf Meuwissen also scores points in 17th place. Boyd van der Voorn crosses the finish line in 33rd place, unfortunately we don't see any Belgians in action.
