End of season for Sam van de Ven?
For Sam van de Ven, the match in Geldermalsen is better forgotten quickly. The sympathetic student from Oirschot has been struggling with bad luck in the last few matches. But today in the match in Geldermalsen things went really wrong!
In the first heat Sam had a poor start, something that has not actually been the case all year. Driven as she is, Sam did not want to lose touch with the head. The Hastenberg Racing rider has already defeated many opponents when she lands incorrectly on a jumping bump and shoots off the footrests with both feet. Sam manages to stay upright but then ends up in stitches after the bump! She cannot hold her steering wheel properly. The handlebars become perpendicular and she rolls over very quickly.
Sam immediately felt it was wrong and crawled to the side of the track. Her already hurt shoulder now felt completely strange. After an investigation on the site, Sam was taken to the hospital for a check-up, where no good news was received from the initial reports. According to the photos taken in the emergency department, a piece of bone in the shoulder has broken off and is sticking against a tendon. The woman from Oirschot has driven home and will soon have a check-up in her own hospital to see what is really going on and what needs to be done to get fit again quickly. However, it looks like there will be an early end to the season for the recently graduated student.
Yet Sam remains positive and is already looking forward to the next race, even if it is only next season, according to Sam himself! She would like to take this opportunity to thank her parents and trainer Peter. As well as all sponsors, supporters, friends, family and everyone who continues to support her. We will keep you informed if there is more information about the nature of the injury.
