Dylan Ferrandis wins AMA250 in Southwick!
Still motivated and fueled by his surprise win at Muddy Creek, it was Shane McElrath who took the holeshot in the first leg of the Kubota Southwick National. The Troy Lee Designs KTM pilot started the race with an impressive pace and immediately created a nice lead for himself.
Jimmy Decotis, who started in second place, fought for what he was worth in front of his home crowd. Which caused a lot of problems and delays for the men in third and fourth place; Austin Forkner and Justin Cooper. When both finally passed the “Massachusetts Rippah” and Austin Forkner had the upper hand over Justin Cooper, we also saw Shane McElrath's lead shrink. Pro Circuit pilot Austin Forkner went up and over Shane McElrath, who in turn completely lost the pace and fell back to sixth place. Austin Forkner, on the other hand, continued to the limit and narrowly won the first heat in Southwick ahead of Alex Martin and Aaron Plessinger. Dylan Ferrandis finished fourth and Chase Sexton fifth. Justin Cooper fell back to seventeenth place after a crash and Jimmy Decotis scored, one point from twentieth place.
In the second moto we saw Shane McElrath take the holeshot, but already in the third turn it was Austin Forkner who confidently claimed the lead. The Pro Circuit pilot immediately took the lead. Behind him we saw an intense duel between teammates Shane McElrath and Alex Martin. Once Alex Martin had the upper hand over his teammate, he immediately cut Austin Forkner's lead. Both entered into a duel and came into heavy contact with each other, causing both to fall. This allowed third dog Dylan Ferrandis to benefit, the Frenchman who had demonstrated his speed throughout the series by riding from tenth place to third with great ease! Dylan Ferrands briefly got Shane McElrath, who had been able to move up to second place due to the crash of his teammate and Austin Forkner. But the KTM pilot never really posed a threat to the Frenchman on Yamaha. Chase Sexton finished third ahead of Alex Martin and Joey Savatgy rounded out the top five.
With the victory in the second moto and with his fourth place from the first moto, Dylan Ferrandis won his first AMA250 overall! Joining him on the podium were Alex Martin (2-4) and Shane McElrath (6-2).
