Davy Pootjes takes top ten place in French GP.
Davy Pootjes of the LRT KTM team managed to achieve a top ten place in the tenth round of the MX2 World Championship in St. Jean d'Angely, France. Unfortunately, things didn't go well in this match either because due to a mechanical problem in the second round, Pootjes also failed to score in one match.
Davy was looking forward to it and started the weekend with great enthusiasm. He felt at home on the hilly circuit and immediately found the right lines. He showed this in the training sessions because with a fourth time in the free training and a sixth time in the time training he showed that his speed was good. However, the qualifying heat, which determined the starting grid for the heats, started with a setback. Davy was involved in a crash at the start and had to start the race last. He set a punishing pace and tried to get back to the front as far as possible. Davy crossed the finish line in twentieth place and was keen to do better in the heats on Sunday.
The conditions were very different on Sunday than on Saturday. Heavy thunderstorms made the track a lot muddier and created treacherous ruts in the circuit. In the first moto Davy came back to the front from around fifteenth place. He entered the top ten at a good pace and worked his way up to ninth place. Unfortunately, in the final phase he had to give up a place to Ben Watson, which meant he finished tenth.
A similar start ensured that Pootjes could again start the match well in the points. He was able to follow the high pace of the riders in front of him and worked his way up to twelfth place. Not much later he joined the group of riders up to tenth place. Unfortunately, he fell in the heat of the battle and shortly afterwards suffered a mechanical problem that forced him to leave the race.
In the daily rankings, Davy finished in fifteenth place and remains in eleventh place in the standings. The next Grand Prix is scheduled for next weekend in Ottobiano, Italy.
