Josep Garcia wins first heat Erzberg prologue, Thierry Pittens best lowlander!
The 2nd round of the WESS returns to the cradle of hard enduro: the Erzberg in Austria! Yesterday the rocket ride hill climb took place, today it was the turn of the pros and everyone - 1800 participants in total - who wants to qualify for the hars scramble the day after tomorrow. KTM factory rider Josep Garcia was the fastest in the first prologue today.
There was no need to adapt technology today, but courage and a super fast engine were needed! Spaniard Garcia narrowly beat Dakar winner Matthias Walkner. American Colton Haaker came third.
Thierry Pittens was the fastest lowlander with a strong 47th time! This gives Thierry the prospect of a coveted starting spot in the first 50. Thierry was able to make excellent use of the free track he had. Mark Wassink set the 55th fastest time. Erzberg debutant Andy Truyts stormed to the 61st time with his Dam KTM. However, Andy himself was not completely satisfied because he is very keen on a starting place among the first 50. Hans Vogels, on paper certainly the fastest lowlander, saw his run ruined by the amount of dust from the riders in front of him.
Tomorrow the riders will get another chance during the second heat of the prologue. The best time of the two counts and the 500 fastest riders qualify for the Hare scramble!
