Zach Osborne starts doubles at Hangtown!
The AMA Supercross Championship has only just found its champions and the gentlemen in America already have to get started in the AMA Motocross Championship! As Ryan Villopoto once said in an interview with myself: We are stuck between a rock and a wall and both are pushing towards each other. We'll just have to go along with the madhouse. It's also crazy that it only takes two weeks to get into motocross mode!
Who could adapt to motocross the fastest? In the 250cc class, a class in which we see a whole host of new names. One of these new names, Yamaha pilot Justin Cooper took the holeshot. For a moment it seemed that this young man as a rookie would surprise everyone until after four laps Zach Osborne burst this bubble. The reigning East Coast 250 Supercross Champion and 250 Motocross Champion surged into the lead after a slightly poor start and took the lead from the youngster. And then continue on to victory!
Justin Cooper was in a good second place for a few more laps, but then had to let some more experienced riders go ahead. Jeremy Martin, for example, who took a few detours to second place ahead of Aaron Plessinger, who on the last lap passed Austin Forkner, who braked himself to death in a deep rut. Fortunately, the Kawasaki pilot was able to quickly restart his engine and finish fourth. And what about Justin Cooper? After about twenty minutes the Rookie met the man with the hammer, who dropped him to fifth place. Another very good rookie result for returning pilots such as Joey Savatgy, Alex Martin, Jordan Smith, Shane McElrath and RJ Hampshire.
In the second moto we got a slightly different scenario. This time the holeshot went to Jeremy Martin! The Geico Honda pilot faced stiff competition from Aaron Plessinger, but the Yamaha pilot soon had to let go of the pace of the Geico Honda pilot and Zach Osborne, who had joined the two. Jeremy Martin and Zach Osborne made it a tough battle, but about ten minutes into the race Zach Osborne managed to get an extra tempo acceleration out of his Husqvarna, which clearly broke Jeremy Martin's morale. Reigning champion Zach Osborne then cruised to his first double series win of the season! Jeremy Martin finished a close second on the new Honda CRF250 and Alex Martin completed the podium in this second moto. Aaron Plessinger, who finished third in the first moto, now finished fourth and that was a disappointment for the Yamaha pilot who was perfectly in line with the fighters J Martin and Zacho at the beginning of the race. His result in the second series was enough for third place at the Hangtown National overall. The best rookie in this moto was Garreth Marchbanks. The Pro Circuit pilot was also the best Kawasaki pilot with his sixth place! Anyone who was there at training in Helicine or Liernieux just four years ago saw this young man at work on the 85cc!
