VMCF: Ken De Dycker dominates in Axel
The VMCF welcomed a fantastic field of participants during their midweek at the RES circuit in Axel. A number of BMB riders came to prepare their Belgian Championship test on Whit Monday, which meant that there was a fierce battle for every place. However, ML-MX team rider Ken De Dycker turned out to be too big for the opposition.
There was hardly any battle for victory because “big Ken” removed all doubts in the first round. A genuine holeshot and then a splitting pace on the renewed RES circuit. Only the local Mark Boot was able to follow, but joining was certainly not an option. Donny Schmidt also claimed a leading role until the big guns could finally find a way past the Brabander.
Frederic Weigert and Jonas Salaets were the first to show up, while a few laps later Steve Seronval joined with a very strong Stijn Verstrepen. Things clearly went too fast for Weigert in the sand and third place was taken over by Jonas Salaets who would only bow to Steve Seronval in the penultimate lap. The top five was completed by Stijn Verstrepen, who kept Jochem Walckiers and Frederic Weigert behind him.
Ken De Dijcker also took off like a rocket in the final series. The bear of Lubbeek would never look back. Frederic Weigert and Steve Seronval became the first pursuers, but were hit in the head by Mark Boot in the second lap. For a moment it seemed like it would be a joust between De Dycker and Boot, but Keeno didn't let Boot get closer than six seconds. Steve Seronval finished third ahead of Jonas Salaets and Frederic Weigert, who now performed better.
A double victory for Ken De Dycker, who brought Mark Boot and Steve Seronval onto the podium. The victory in the MX2 class went to Kristof Van Vaerenbergh. On Sunday the caravan will travel to the beautiful hill circuit of Vollezele.
