Open letter following cancellation of VLM Antwerp & Endurocross Deurne
Earlier we made here It has already been announced that both the VLM competition in Antwerp and the Endurocross at the Bosuil Stadium will be cancelled. In response to this news, Racing Center Events distributed the open letter below.
Dear Motocross and Endurocross fans, Sponsors, Members of Parliament, members of the Antwerp City Council, the Deurne District Council, our employees and everyone else it concerns,
As you know, we had two events planned this year with Racing Center Deurne and some energetic partners. The first was a VLM motocross that would be held in Antwerp, Linkeroever on May 27, 2018. The second event was our annual Endurocross, which would be held in Deurne on June 17, 2018.
Our applications were sent out on time. The permissions in principle had been given. The use of the sites was in order. Some things still needed to be formalized. The planning was correct and preparations for both matches were in full swing.
Something may go wrong here and there, but we never expected it to be so manifestly bad for us. On May 4 we were told that our motocross cannot be contested. Reason: the works around the Oosterwheel connection are starting. Yard chains would be set up at the location assigned to us for the motocross. Now this would not have been such a problem if all services had communicated better. If this had happened, the BAM (client Oosterwheel connection) could have accommodated this. The motocross must be canceled out of necessity.
Almost at the same time we learned that the new location for the Endurocross did not allow this. That, given the short time until the event, people would turn a blind eye to this. But the event would be canceled if there was the slightest complaint. It goes without saying that we could not continue working on such a basis. The Endurocross will also not be held this year.
It's all a bit more complicated, but we try to make it clear what it's essentially about. That is why this letter is mainly to say thank you. Because there are many people and organizations who have stuck their necks out for us. Such as Bart De Wever – mayor of Antwerp, Peter Wouters – Flemish representative, Tjerk Sekeris – district mayor of Deurne, Elke Breydenbach – district councilor of Deurne, the people of Antwerp football club, the Gheysen family (Ghelamco), Mr. Sebastiani – KTM and all our (trusted and new) sponsors and everyone else who contributed to the preparation or volunteered for it.
Our story has not yet been written, we are still too ambitious and driven for that. But for this year we have to throw in the gauntlet. Peter Wouters has promised us that he believes in our story and that there should be room for a motocross in Antwerp next year.
With sporting thanks,
On behalf of Racing Center Deurne
